Two rugs, wife bought in Turkey

My wife bought two rugs in Turkey, she said they were Persian Isfahan, Wool on silk with silk highlights. Age unknown, but they look brand new. I received them by mail in UK. She paid $6000 for them, I she is a sucker for a salesman. The dark blue without center motif is 6.51 meters squared and the beige background rug without center is 5.84 meters (squared). Let me know how badly she was ripped off, I won't tell her, unless she got a bargain. That is very unlikely :)

This two rugs look very nice. They are woven in Iran, around the town of Isfahan or in a workshop of Isfahan. The price is correct for new pieces. Not much. I would say your wife bought them rather cheap.

don't think it's a horrible deal for the both of them, although it could be a chinese rug. that's like higher end retail here in the states if Chinese.

The beige rug does have a slightly thicker pile than the dark blue without medalion center

The price is very low for 12 sqm fine Iranian Isfahan rugs wool on silk (shop price). Make a few shots of the silk frings and endings of the rug...selvages and closeup of the silk highlights so we can say more!

Yes, both are Isfahan rugs.
There are newer weavings they do not come from the town Isfahan but from neighborhood, maybe yours. But the shop price for each normaly is about 6.000-8.000,- USD.

Thank you for the information Chris. I am better at estimating curtains :). I will send my wife back to buy more rugs, she will be there for another couple of weeks working, before she returns to merry (and really cold this year) England. I think she was very lucky to spend a very cold Winter in Turkey, I know the children and myself would like to escape the freeze.Boo hoo!

Please notice if you want to sell maybe the price you will get is 2.000,- USD for each at best. Ebay price could be 1.500,- USD for new one at that bad financial situation worldwide.

Chris, thanks for the advice. I am not looking to resell any of them. I really want to know if I should get them insured, and what to expect as an appraisal when I get one. If they were worthless then I wouldn't need an appraisal. Since we need many more rugs, I also thought she could get them there if they were good value. The store has a very good selection, and they are very friendly and helpful. They cook and feed you, give you beer, and make tea all day long for you for free, whether you buy or not. That is customer service. And apparently they are also very good value, and don't lie, or rip you off.

A Great Place to shop.
