I have this rug, I know that this rug is caucasian, but I can't identify the tribe and ornament. What are you think about this?
And that age of this rug? I think it's late 19th.

Best Regards, uzrugs

Hello Uzrugs.
Design, red double and tripple wefts, colors could be everything from Kasak area around Bordjalu, Fachralu, Karachopf. I guess its Bordjalu. Nice yellow, green and brown, the blue looks a bit bright. Could be everything around 1900.

You want to sell? From Uzbekistan? Hard to say what you can get. Condition is not bad. I guess ebay price will be 500-700,- Euro. I do not know the US market.

On my screen the blue looks ok on the close-up photos, but the red looks like an early synthetic, compared e.g. with the brownish madder red of the wefts.
(of course it's possible that my screen does not representing colours accurate)

,-)

To me the red looks good.
Indigo blue is the color more often comes from synthetic base than all other colors. The one i see on the pics look very flat and strong. But really it could be a problem of my screen to.

I bow to your experience, Chris. I can see what you say about the blue.

Two follow-up questions:
(1) I understand indigo-blue aniline dye was introduced later than red aniline dye to rug makers. So what does this suggest about the age of the rug?
(2) if the blue is synthetic, doesn't that suggest that the green is partially synthetic?

And a question to Uzrugs: as you see the real rug, not a screen representation, what's your impression about the dyes?

Shereen.
There is a speciall anilin red used in Bidjar or Karabagh f.e. this is very old. It is not so hot, more a decent red-orange. I love to see it. At the time it was very exciting for the weaver to use this expensive color. The ordinary anilin red using in Turkey till WW2 is horrible, bleeding, fading, i hate it.
The yellow in this rug was robust and did not fade as much as other yellow. So the green is lighter than the dark faded green turned to blue f.e. of old turkmen rugs. I think its ok and i like it.
