Hello.

I often bought and sold original older Hereke silk rugs in past. I saw Ipek and Özipek and Hereke signature in arabic letter. I also know chinese silk weaving.
But a friend of mine ask me about an opinion about this rug bought in Turkey.

This is what we call a one million weaving...in US i think 700 kpsi. 117-77 cm. Silk on silk, of course.

I only found a side of Cinar Hali in the web and the design is precisly comparable with one of the illustrated rugs. But no hint where the weaving is from...Hereke...Kayserie...Istanbul.
Is Cinar a Hereke weaving?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Chris,
Cinar Hali is one of the most popular sellers of fine silk rugs. If you checked their site, you know why. For all those who do not know what we are talking about: http://www.cinarhali.com.tr/english.html . Cinar silk rugs are said to be produced in Kayseri. Cinar has a wide range of rugs from wool, wool and silk, and pure silk. Their silk rugs are among the best worldwide. I have some turkish friends who think Cinar is not producing in Turkey, since the family is said to be big in tourist business, and there the chinese Hereke are more common than the turkish. I added two pics from a very unsusal Cinar silk rug.

Hello KAD,
thank you for the reply.

Did you ever had a Cinar rug in your hand? It is a different feeling to those fine silk rugs i know from Hereke or Kayserie. The pile is more soft and higher than the older turkish rugs.
And if i will offer this one i posted is it the fact it comes from Turkey or will there be born any problems ?

Chris

Hi Chris, the one on the pic was in my shop. We got to wash it, since the owners had a little problem with their pet. I agree with you about the feel of the rug - it feels more like a mixture between an old 260 line china silk and a Zhenping double knot. I guess this is why there are rumours about cinar rugs would be produced in china. From what I have seen they are turkish. They wash different from chinese silk rugs. China silk is quite soft after washing, Hereke, Kayseri and Ghom silk are stiff and hard after washing. This Cinar we had behaved more like turkish silk. I would also post it as a turkish rug. I have no doubt that it is turkish.
