I've just bought 4 silk rugs from E-bay (I've gone insane). I was told one is Egyptian, Chinese, Turkish and persian Qum. The first 3 were from the same man who traveled to these locations and bought there, the Qum was another seller who claimed the rug was from around 1975. Here are some photos:

Egyptian

Chinese

Turkish

Qum

Hi all, funny looking back at my silk rugs...seems like so long ago when I bought these (not even a year), as they started my madness on all the other rugs I have collected. (The Qum is the last in the first group of photos, at the beginning of this thread).
Here are some photos of the Egyptian...I took this rug with me when I had my Isfahans appraised, the owner of the shop had never saw an Egyption rug before, he wondered if it had been washed, as he thought it felt "not as soft" as some of the other silks, to me it doesn't look like it has, I think it's just the way they twisted the yarn, also, sheared a bit longer than some of my other silk rugs.

It often Happens that rug dealers have little knowledge about Silk rugs from egypt. Actually they are of good quality. As fredgrower mentioned, spinnig of Fibre is different. Also weave usually is 8 x 8 knots per cm². The feel of the rug is a lot like old Kashan Silk rugs. Compared to other countries the amount of produced rugs is very small. Most rugs are sold on the domestic market As ordered production.
