here's a sample of some rugs that are coming up at a local auction...it's a little bit of a drive, but i was thinking about going only if the forum thought i might be able to find something of value... now i know condition is everything, and some here are obviously beyond their prime, but i also think there could be some that still have life and hold modest value...

please let me know your thoughts....

thanks!!!

yea, those ones are pretty well shot...nice, but shot. i think i might pass, but wanted to see what everyone thought.

i've been looking through the hammer prices at skinners and there seemed to be a bunch of small, scatter sarouks that sold in the last year or so that i would of gladly paid for...i guess i need to keep my eye on them more...

thanks again, rugpro!

...well, i wanted to give an update on this auction with some of the prices realized, as well as another rug that was added that got an amazing amount...so here goes:

rug 1 - $220
rug 2 - $150
rug 3 - $250
rug 7 - $1,000
rug 9 - $8,750

so, what does everyone think...i liked all these rugs, especially rug 7 and 9, but could bid no where close to these values...

...my guess is rug 9 is a 20s Heriz, but i'm not expert...

thanks!

That's a nice old Serapi and not a bad price, somebody knew what it was. Looks about 1880.

They might call that a Heriz. Did you notice if it had any re piling or repairs.

Rugpro, do you mean 1, 2 and 3 where good values; and do you mean rug 9 is stunning in terms of it's a beautiful rug at a great price, or you're stunned it went so high. also, there was an 18 percent buyer's premium, too, so $8,750 was really $10,325... personally, i liked it, but it was well beyond my means...

and Ed, no, i did not attend the auction...it was online. the funny thing was is that rugs came from a home out of oak park, il, which is close to me (chicagoland area), but were auctioned way west of us...oh, and heriz was my guess based on similar rugs i saw at metropolitan carpets... and from what i gather, a serapi is an older heriz, no???

Rug 1...is it a Saruk? It is reduced allover with new frings made. 220,- USD is a normal price. I cannot see the weaving to say more about.

Rug 2 is Malayer/Hamadan type. I would not buy. But if its old Bibikabad i would.

Rug 3 looks good old amerikan saruk. Reduced allover, new frings, good price for private buyer. How worn is it?

Rug 7...mmmh, looks brilliant. Like fine wool Ferahan. Or good Indian copy. Gone for 1.000,- ? It was a Mohajeran.

Rug 9...very very nice. I would not buy from pictures and not for 8.750,-USD but 5.000,- USD in the good condition and i guess it is. Its gone for 8.750,-?
