Hi,

New to this forum so apologies in advance if I post in the wrong section, etc..

I'll be travelling to Iran in the early new year and would be interested in picking up a few rugs while I'm there.. To be honest I don't know an awful lot about Persian rugs (despite being Persian myself..Anxious ) but I have access to a few people who are reasonably knowledgeable and can help me get some good deals, hopefully.. I've noticed some folks selling rugs on ebay and was wondering whether this could be done by someone like myself? I used to sell a lot of stuff on ebay some years back.. collectables mostly.. (not rugs or antiques) so I have a good feel for what sells and I have a 100% positive feedback aswell. I see some rugs getting 20+ bids and selling for over $1,000-$1,500.

Would appreciate any tips anyone could offer..

Thanks!!

Armand.

Hi Armand,

Often carpets are sold on Ebay cheaper than you can buy now in Iran. In any case, it is very difficult to sell or buy if you do not know nothing about carpets

Thanks Bukhara, yes I was told something very similar by a friend about carpets going cheaper on ebay than they can be bought in Iran, and you're right I need to have an intimate knowledge what I am selling/buying (obviously) to have any chance. Just a dumb q if I may.. persian carpets/rugs don't generally go down in price, right? I mean unlike tech items that decline in price almost by the week/day, carpets that are bought at competitive prices and are hand woven will either stay constant in value or go up? But rarely down? Thanks!
