Would a kashmiri rug ever be a reasonable investment rug?

I'm temporarily living in India, surrounded by Kashmiri rug vendors. I would like to know if a Kashmiri rug would be a good investment or if a Persian or Turkish made rug would be a better choice. Also, when considering Kashmiri rugs would a wool rug or a silk on silk rug (assuming that I can figure out if it is real silk) hold its value better? Any thoughts on whether a persian design or a tribal design is a better choice? I've heard different opinions on whether there are any original Kashmiri designs (some vendors say yes and point to what they call a Four Seasons design other vendors selling the exact same pattern claim it is a Persian Qum pattern). Thanks for any opinions on these subjects.

if you have photographs of the rug youre considering it would help - the value retention has a lot to do with the purchase price, colors, motif, workmanship, pile cut, design translation, etc. if you had several rugs for comparison, this would be ideal. otherwise it's a shot in the dark

Kashmiri silk rug would be a good investment if that special piece. For example 6 x 9 ft, silk on silk, 40 x 40 knots per sq.inch ( but very expensive)

Thanks for your responses. Attached are some pictures of some of the wool rugs I am considering. I will get pictures of the silk on silk that I really loved. It is 6 x 9, but only 30 x 30 kpsi - I believe the shop does have some higer knot counts for silk on silk that are also very lovely but possibly only in 4 x 6 -I will ask if they have 6x9 40 x 40 on my next visit. I'm sure it will be very expensive. For investment purposes is it better to go with a higher knot count even if you have to drop down a size (for budget purposes:)

I'd love any opinions on the quality or the designs of these wool rugs. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to this posting.

Hi Joan.

This are a nice couple of rugs. That kind will cost about till 500,- USD per squaremeter (in a carpetshop).
But in a few years by using the rug they will be worth 50,- USD per squaremeter. Is this a good investment?

Silk carpets wont lose their value so fast. But they arent an investment, too. Only old or antique rugs with their wholesale price are good invests.

Chris
