I just bought this 10'3"X13'7" rug off Craigslist for a minimal price. Is it an old enough rug that the wear is expected or is it just on it's last legs?
The retired owner said that it was 1935 at the youngest, but his guess was the old "my folks had it for xx years."
It really is a nice rug in person, if you like the thought of an antique rug. Obviously the borders are in much better condition than the field

Mmh.

There is something wrong with this carpet. On the first look an old Saruk. But wool and colors looks more like Mashad. My guess: not a Saruk, sorry.

There were no claims for sarouck so I dont feel too bad. At least I didn't pay $1,000, but $100, thinking I had found a lost treasure. What age would you put it?

I'm with Chris on this. but I don't think this is persian. The wool and knots and density look everything like an indian rug. Probably 1940 at the newest. I would say 1930 sounds right. just don't know where this thing is from, but does not look persian in my opinon

Actually I do have some very nice rugs both newer Hereke and Isfahan and I'm trying to decide is I should restore a 1890 shahsavan. At the same time it's my hobby to explore if you will wha is out there.
The hunt is the fun part for me. To each their own.

I agree with you, btuma6. But take care not to cram your garage with this big and heavy carpets...you will throw them onto the garbage to get quit of them in time.
