several years ago i was given this rug as a house-warming gift from an old boss. it resided in my living room for a while, but it was otherwise a bit too large for my place. it has been rolled up in storage for the last few years. i'm moving soon and looking to sell it. my old boss never told me much about it and i'm having trouble determining origin, style, era, etc. any input? much obliged!
the rug is 133" x 86-1/2"
a few points of wear:
pile:
front/back:

What do some of you rug-masters think regarding age/value?
As for dating, is it the style or colors that indicate a certain time period? I'm amazed at how people on here are able to eyeball rugs and date them.

no older than 1980's, but likely 90's or newer. value is not too much unfortunately. when the foundation shows in areas of these rugs, they tend not to fetch much

I was wondering about the foundation showing as well. Is that the sign of wear or of a lower quality rug? Or both?
Also regarding foundation; there was a conversation about wool vs. cotton foundation and warping. Other than warping is there any other pros or cons regarding cotton or wool foundations?

wool warps are not ideal for larger rugs. among many types older tribal rugs use them, but they tend to be small population. how they decide one or the other really depends on where the rug was woven and by who. the wear to this rug you have is likely from a combination of lower grade wool, and heavy use/traffic. although hand knotted, these are very commercial types.
