Several post down, I posted a silk Chinese rug I bought from a local individual. They have another 8X10 rug forthe same $750 price.

I only have one high resolution picture that I recieved from them. I have seen the rug. It is a 356 knot count and is in prestine condition. I was concentrating on the first rug I bought so I do need to re-exam the rug. It is silk, I believe, but I'm not sure if it is just a silk foundation.

Someone told me the fringe usually gives an indication of a chinese rug. Due to the first rug being Chinese I thought this rug, with the fringe knots having somewhat the look of uniform "pineapples" that is was Chinese. Is there any thought that it could be an isfahan?

I have delayed in buying the rug. Should I run out and buy it as quick as possible? There is an auction this weekend with supposedly has some fine isfahan which I might want to see before I buy this one. However, if I really don't know if I can find a better rug than this for the price. Any thoughts? I've been struggling with this for days.

Thanks

It is really hard to tell just from the pictures, but you can definitely tell that it isn't Iranian, mostly because it is an 8x10 and not an 8x11. Also, the design isn't Persian, or the color scheme or fringe on the end. It is probably a Chinese, but there is the slightest possibility that the rug could be Indian. You need a closer picture of the back to tell. If this rug is in pristine condition, a $750 price tag would be fair.

btuma. you really have to post more than one picture. forum policy is here. there's really nothing we can see from this! identification of a rug is more than just isolating design, material, fringe, size, etc. this rug could be from 3 entirely different countries.
