Hi Again :) This is the second carpet I would like to have identified and a guesstimate as to it's value, if any other photos are required just let me know. I hope someone can help with the "tag" translations. This rug is 3'6.5" (across top) 3' 7" (across bottom) X 6'3" how odd lol, it has no visible repairs, damage or bleeding and it seems to have 9 + colors, and the "threads" seem to be 2 + ply. Flatweave though the animals and other items are nicely "raised" and has a wonderful texture. Thanks

Hi,
This is similar to your silk rug except it's wool on cotton but a soumak from the same area. Value would be about $400 to $800 in my opinion,
age being the biggest factor for each rug. If they were from 1880 you could add an extra zero but who knew. Now isn't the best time to be
selling but I'm sure you knew that, anyway good luck.

No help from anyone on prices. Replacement prices will be higher but you could buy an antique rug from Sothebys or Christies for what you
would pay a dealer for a replacement piece. When they see a rich American coming in the middle east they raise the prices regardless of
what they tell you and it doesn't matter who your are with even if it is a government official. They might even have a prize for the dealer
who makes the most from foreigners. Rug dealers didn't get the reputation they have by being straightforward. I'm sorry if you were deceived
while in the middle east but you aren't alone, I've heard this story many times before.
The one rug you said was fifty years old was new or almost new when you purchased it so the person you had helping you was either in on it
or was ignorant but for a middle eastern not to know a new rug from a older rug is hard to fathom. I think he might have been in on it. Imagine that
a middle eastern lying right to your face. I've heard about that on tv.

LOL, thanks for all you and the others have helped, we really didn't get "ripped off" just ummm misrepresented ;) We THINK we paid about 300 or so for both, but probably not much more as we are rich only by middle eastern rug seller standards, lol but I DO KNOW for a fact they are 15 yrs old and I have no problem holding on to them for another 35 yrs or so, or at least until I decide our investment was worth the wait. I find them to be beautiful and unique to what else I can find on the net, or have seen in other shops. We spent 2 yrs in Izmir Turkey and I did a little shopping while there, ( I was too young and dumb to realize the REAL opportunity I had) I have a "set" of everyday carpets, 8x12, 4 x 6, oval and hall runner that I also own along with an Anatolian Kilim, wool by the smell :) and the colors have bleed some but still a "fun" rug. After testing both fringes and the other carpet this site has made a believer out of me, 1st seems to be Silk on Cotton.... and the animals wool on cotton as I was advised. And now I know WHAT kind I have as well as the fact that they have increased in value. I also talked to my husband about WHO helped him and apparently, Sol assisted with the gold buying (THAT was a GREAT investment in todays market) and another American that thought he knew more than he did, go figure an arrogent american :), helped with the rugs. I was not on that trip. We did have a rug dealer in Turkey promise he had leather carpets and would "for you abbi, best price" we just laughed and kept on walking. My husband will be returning to the middle east soon and I have advised him to SEND PHOTOS FIRST lol and we'll see what all of YOU have to say before we buy. I plan on checking back on the site often as I've really enjoyed the experience........ thanks again to all.............. Peace Out
