It is hand knotted. it is from india or pakistan. I lean toward india as that's where it was purchased. its not wool on wool tho. it's wool on cotton. the design migrated from Iran, very loosely based off old tabriz garden carpets from centuries ago. I didn't look too carefully at the design, but these often depict a 'four seasons' design or other weaving symbols like willow trees or tree of life panels. As a side note, these are generally looser rugs. the kpsi is half what it appears on the horizontal, you see both sides of the knot. some dealers inflate these measurements. You don't find this type of rug too often here in higher end rug retailers here in the states, but if you would, the price would be anywhere around 700 +/- depending on the quality of wool and many other factors. It looks great in your room. presumably the closer you get to the loom, the cheaper the rug may be. I don't think you did bad though

Never saw a new Pakistan. The last one about 10 years ago. Are they as soft as they was in past? This rug looks to me very soft (or softer as an Indian rug could be).

Thank you RugPro and others for your feedback.

It is actually very soft and nice to touch. I wonder if that is a function of whta RugPro called "loose". Is looseness a quality different from KPSI?
