This rug is at a local garage sale. It is 4X6 for $400. I was struck by the borders, but wish the pictorial was classic tree of life.
The owner says it is a qhom, or is it an isfahan? She also says it is natural dye.

Obviously ghoms are not antique since they are new comers, but is this an earlier, 50's-60' rug? I put a quarter on the back and got around 15 rows.

It looks as if it has never been on the floor and loops sewn on. The seller is a well to do Iranian. I like to buy personal rugs from Iranian since it seem as if they would have the knownledge to buy the best. Although the older person I am buying if from does not have any knowledge about the rug

I don't have the rug, but there is something about it that makes it hard to pass up.

Any info on the rug would be appreciated. My questons are if is it ghom, organic and older. The only importance of age is the colors seem unique.

Thanks

Really a fine rug. Not an Isfahan. I wonder if this are natural colours but chrome. It doesnt matter.
Never saw this design before in Ghom rugs (more often in Isfahan, i do understand your guess). Looks to me like a fine Ghiassabad...but Ghom is possible. Also China Isfahan. Need to see a better close-up of the selvages and the complete backside and a better pic of the knots with the kilim endings.

Thanks, Chris. Once again I don't have all the pictures needed. The problem is I don't have the rug myself and the selvage is covered with a leather strip which I can't move. Thanks for your input.

I did buy the rug and here are the back sided pictures. I also include one of the leather selvage cover. It has a shine which hold with the untouched rest of the rug so I believe the rug has never been used. The rug was securely wrapped when I first saw it. I asked the seller how old it was and she said she didn't know. I did get the impression that the rugs (she had several) had been given to her
Thanks, for any help.

I have to pass. It could be everything from Iran. Ed seems to be right, the weaving looks like Tabriz. But it doesn´t matter, it is a good fine rug.
