Today I bought this 6'6"X10" rug for $200 that had been posted on Craigslist in a smaller town. The seller parent-in-laws are Iranian and are very passionate about their rugs. The seller, a Western daughter in law, said she is surprised they don't give the rugs names. This rug was a gift from the parents, but hard times meant hard decisions. It had been on Craigslist for some time, but her pictures didn't allow a person to see the rug By chance I had to go by the town for busness and purchased it. She was elated, but certianly hadn't told her parent in laws

She has no info on the rug except that it was purchased in Tehran.

RugPro previously mentioned that the Iranian's like a gawdier qum rug but ths tyype of rug is not as appreciated by the Westerm market.

I believe the rug is wool wiith silk highlights and cotton foundation. It is in extremely good condition with very little age or use.

First is this a Qum? I've read Qum can use a Caucasian theme. Secondly, my taste says it's a lovely rug. Am I crazy and it is too bright?

The back has a leather strip coverng the selvage so the selvage picture is less than poor.

Thanks

Good shot for this price, congratulation. It is a 50 raj Tabriz. Well, not that kind i really love but a rather good quality carpet. Heriz design from about 1980. Whether it has silk highlights its your turn to find out.

Thanks Chris. You also hve a very good perspective on value in your European market. It is almost certain that it has silk hightlights. What value would you place on it?
Thanks again.

At the same time Tabriz produced a few of different designs. Mahi, Heriz, Shah Abbas, pictoral. The most popular is the Shah Abbas with rose and light colours. The yours is to much extravagant in design. There is no current market for except Ebay. And the price should be about 400-500,- Euro.

Wow! If that woman ever tells her in-laws that she sold you that for $200, she'll be divorced. You made out like a bandit. Keep the rug. If you change your mind and decide you don't like it, we'll buy it from you. Don't let it go on eBay. There is a market here for those rugs.

I would agree dont let this go for 500 euro on ebay
It is a beautiful Heriz design This rug is not a Qum
This is defiantly a Tabriz like Chris has suggested
I would not be surprised if someone payed close to $1000 if not more for this rug in Tehran

I agree this is likely Tabriz not qum. Does the carpet have any color run?

There is no color run it is probably too new for that to take place. However, espeically the black would seem vulnerable for runs in the future. From all appearances I believe the parents took great pain to get the best for their children. I actually asked the daughter if she would be in trouble. She said she would have to replace it before the patents found out, but that her current financial jam was worse so I agree with the comment about the parents anger.
I have since got an offer of $1,200 for the rug (not on ebay but an admirer), but I have become so attached to it, I'm keeping it. Thanks for the comments.
