I am relatively inexperienced rug buyer. I have found your site to be very helpful and informative.

I apologize if I have posted in the wrong section. I purchased a Mashad on ebay. It was an inexpensive rug and my expectations were measured. Unfortunately this rug has what appears to be a very defective repair that was not disclosed in the add. It appears to me that the fringe from a different rug was spliced on each end of the rug. It is not even a close match. The spliced rug is a neon\pastel that does not blend in at all and essentially ruins the rug. There was no mention whatsoever of any repairs or defects in this rug, and the rug was listed as a new hand knotted rug from Iran.

I plan to contact the seller and try to work something out, but before doing so I wanted a professional opinion as to whether my assesment of this as being a poor repair is accurate.

This rug was presented as a hand knotted Iranian rug. I would also be curious if you could verify this. Please let me know if you need more photos. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I'm not really sure what you want but I don't see a reweave. The colors at the fringe are the colors that were used in the rug. Meshed was known for doing this. The slight change in color in the outer border near the end fringe is normal in that they ran out of that color and had to use what they had. If there is a reweave or something you need to show pictures of the back of the rug where they are. If it has been reduced in size which is sometimes hard to see from the front that would be a problem.

I agree with ed. meshed rugs do integrate this into a lot of the weavings. I actually think it's awesome. Please send more images of the back though. If you can provide details on price paid, that may also play a factor

here are the photos necessary

Wow this is a huge relief. Because I didn't want to return the rug, nor did I want to complain or rate negatively on impulse or ignorance. That is exactly why I joined and posted here. I knew I would get good sound advice. What's that old saying... Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

Thanks Ed and RugPro. I did say I was inexperienced didn't I, lol. I have looked at a lot of Mashads and never seen such a thing so it did alarm me. I have a few other pics including the full rug pic from the ebay listing, which I will include here. I can take more if anyone is interested.

I forgot to mention that the rug is 9' 5"x13' 0" & I paid $149 with free shipping. I am trying to learn so please don't hesitate to make any suggestions or provide and criticism of my purchase!

Thanks again for any and all input.

in consideration of the info you've provided and the images I'm looking at, it seems the price paid is very good. The problem with these rugs most often is the color run and heavy isolated wear. they're not made with the best of wool... they are among the most commercialized type carpets from Iran. I've seen people pay a lot more than you did. Most people get sidetracked thinking these are incredible investments as they're hand knotted 'persian' rugs, but the fact is, they're on the lower end of the spectrum. But, also in consideration of what the same money can get elsewhere, you really cant find a new machine made rug or even wall to wall at the same price point of this hand knotted carpet.

Thank you sir. Yes I assumed it was at the lowest end of the spectrum. I basically bought it to cover a concrete floor in a small loft office, and it fits the bill quite nicely. I am just curious, is there any term that applies to the process of integrating the colors of the rug into the edge of the fringe, as the weaver did here. I would like to do some research on that subject but have little luck googling it so far.

Thanks again for all your help. I will go back to lurking and try to pick up some tips from you and your more experienced users.

It's not really abrash

I don't know if there's a specific term or name for it, but what I can say is it's not really a defect, so you don't need to worry about that. again, it is typical to specifically meshed rugs such as this one. For what reason they do it more than others, I do not know. but what I can say is it's not uncommon it could have to do with the belief that no one is perfect but God. So often, weavers integrate intentional imperfections into a rug. In this case, a randomly ordered color pattern on the end.

Not the least bit worried about it any more. In fact you've changed my mind. I like it! Thanks
