I have yet to find a good source of information on Chinese rug weaving on the internet

I know very little about older Chinese rugs, so any information and any good sources would be helpful

The blue rug was purchased in China about 80 years ago
I am told the red rug was purchased on a return trip just a few years later

The knots in the rug are 7 x 9 and 6 x 7 in the blue rug
I noticed that the wool in the blue Chinese is much finer/thiner than most wool rugs I have worked with
The blue rug has damage in the pile as shown and also need the salvages repaired on one side
the red rug is in great condition for its age

I have attached 3 pictures of each rug

Hi.
The first is what i would call an Art-Deco-Carpet or Nichols carpet. Very decorativ one. The second also is called Art-Deco but 30 years later.
I remember a internet page with lot of Nichols...you have to google.

Hi, I agree with chris

First one is 1920's Nichols type. The second is 1940's or so maybe. As most any rug, value of these are heavily dependent upon color, condition, size and design. For this type, even moreso.

I have herd dealers refer to this style rug as Nickel Chinese.
I am familiar with Walter Nichols and i would agree the first on is at least in this style (Much of the original fringe is gone so well never know)
Can anyone explain to me the difference if any?
