I have recently recieved a number of rugs from my mother's house. Some of these rugs may have come from my grand father's house. I have been told that this rug is a special rug, by the company that I had clean the rugs, but I have no idea if they are correct. I plan on keeping the rug, but I would like to know some more about the rug. This rug is 4'8" by 11'2". I have not been able to find any repairs, but there is some ware in spots.

Thanks
Brad

Hello Brad.
After all the time looking onto RugRag page this is a rug i really like. From foundation it seems to be a west Persian rug. Luri possibly, maybe Veramin. The design is called Harshang. Do not sell, and if please sell it to me. Do you have other rugs?

Regards,
Chris, rugandmore@gmx.de

I have a number of rugs that I will post later, but the rug cleaner did not single any of them out.

Hi Brad.
Yes, i am so interested to see the other rugs. Why did you bring them to a cleaner (and do i understand right, you cannot make pics because they are at another place?)? This is to expensive. Sometimes a little bid dust give the rug a speciall character.

Hi, If it is very heavy comparitively to your other rugs I think it is a Bijar Kurd or that's what it looks like to me very nice rug.

Hi again I found an example that is similar to your rug but it's drawn a little more rigidly more like a city rug. I'd like to see another picture of the end finishes at fringe if possible where they are most complete. It should be at least a foot or two, your pictures are great by the way. I'd date your rug to as early as 1890 or there abouts. Looks to be in need of some overcasting to save those ends. Anyway here is the link http://www.jozan.net/Gallery/Detail.asp?Item=8706 Looking forward to seeing the other rugs also. Ed

Ed,
Here are pictures of the ends of the rug. One end of the rug has fringe the other does not.

The wool in this rug is superior you can still see the sheen on the back of the knots. If your thinking about getting appraisals I would get that Kashan the one by the Shiraz appraised and the Kashkai or Lori bag is that the one you said was camel wool? If your mother bought that kashan they may have given her all the other small rugs maybe even the runner. New rugs weren't worth much then just like now I guess. The kashan looks older from what I could see. Good luck.

I would have to agree with Ed and say this is a Kurdish Bijar. I would estimate is to be circa 1920s-1930s. Something like this would probably retail for as much as $2500.

I am thinking about buying area rugs for my living room. But i have very poor knowledge of the different rug styles. I have heard of such names as traditional rugs, Oriental or green rugs but have no idea what they refer to. can anyone help me.

Such a question first should be the start of a new thread rather than an addendum to an existing thread.
But before you do that, please take a good look at the main site www.rugrag.com
There is a wealth of information there to guide you in your learning journey.
