THe 1970's would be around the right time frame for this rug. My mother moved into the house in 1968 and was getting new rugs at the time.

Chris,
I do not plan to sell the rug. I also have no idea what the value of the rug is.

Sorry

hahaha, nice try chris, lets put a digit in front of that 5 !!! Brad, I don't blame you for not wanting to sell.

I would also encourage you to have the rug looked at and inspected in person for actual value. Perhaps would be worth considering for insurance. If you would like, I could make a few recommendations in your area, or for online review on the main RugRag.com site.

It's a very, very nice looking rug. Tough to tell from images as sometimes cameras distort, but it appears as though the colors in this rug are very rich and very vibrant. Although the pile seems somewhat low in areas, this kind of saturation and depth in dyes is highly desirable in antique rugs. Especially true in the purple selvages and blue.

Here's the rug link here, please do keep posts relevant to both the rug and forum thread at hand.

The times are very hard now. Antique rugs are not as popular as they was the last ten years. And this wonderful rug do not have a good size! So my offer is not the badest one. But, as i told, Brad should not sell this one, the Shiraz of course.

In another thread Ed commented on the rug and the saddle bag in the picture of this rug. The part of a rug shown in this picture did not come from my mothers house. It came from bloomingdales about 2 years ago, I can post it in a seperate thread later.

dont disagree times have been tough, but some rugs are much less affected by downturn than others. That's a timeless piece on the other thread.

I know where you're going with that statement. yes, fewer rugs are selling, but I don't think this necessarily means popularity is lower. sure some may have reservations about purchasing a rug made in certain countries. My thought is these people are the ones who never appreciated rugs and perhaps never will. I would say turnover is lower, or volume is down. Popularity I believe remains constant and/or increasing. Consider in the past 10 years there have been 4 record breaking hammer prices for rugs ever. That to me is desirability, popularity, and appreciation.

Yes. This is a correct point of view. The volume of collectors is reduced on about 30%, the other 70% are still looking for the best pieces. The 30% was collector who bought everything was in market.
Brads Bidjar is a good one but not the crasher. Believe me, my price isn´t the worst!
