Hi Fellow Rug Enthusiasts;

I have this rather unique rug with a pattern of squares. One photo shows the size of the rug about 7X10 feet. The metal tag says "Iran". The rug is quite old, and was purchased by the family most likely in the 1950's. The rug seems to be in pretty good condition. What more can you tell me about the rug?

It looks like a Saruk from about the 60´s. It seems to be a better weaving. Than it maybe comes from Ghiassabad.

RugTalker, nice to see another beautiful rug from your mother. I hope yourself and brothers have finished the process of organizing the other rugs. I still remember the beauty of your isfahan, and this rug certainly carries the same quality. I left you an email and hope that you get it. This rug is a panel rug of which I am told each panel has a specific purpose/story and is not simpy a random beauty picture.

Great rug.

Hey there - Just to chime in...

I agree that this rug is a Sarouk piece. The design is that of a Bakhtiari so if I were to describe this to another rug dealer I'd say it was a Sarouk with a Bakhtiari design. Panels, Four Seasons, etc. are also terms that are also used to describe these blocked patterns.

If I didn't know that your folks bought this rug in the 1950s, I would guess that it was circa 1970s. The color scheme is more representative of that era. But, there are always outliers, so you never know!

This is very pretty, so keep it in the family!

Hi Rug Guys,

Thanks for offering the information about this Sarouk. It is possible that this rug was purchased later than in the 1950's, but I think not as late as 1970. I will look in old family photos and see if I can tell how far it goes back.

Sincerely

Bob
