I am wondering whether this is a good purchase. Any advice would be appreciated:

Brand new silk (real silk) rug is available for sale. Size 5’x7.5’, price $350 (worth about $1000).

It is real pure silk, doesn't burn, warms up when rubbed. My guess is machine made. So many knots (1100000.00) would not be handmade, but I did not ask.

( please see image below.. if it attaches correctly )

Hello, and welcome

We would need to see more photos. Here are some pics which would help if possible: number 2 and 3 from the same distance would be helpful. for value 5&6

From what I see, it looks like it could be a viscose machine made rug with a nain type design. They usually run about the 350 price tag retail, but I would have to see more pics to say for sure.

thanks for the help! I have some more pictures. i have seen the rug now in person. it is soft to the touch, but not anything like the 100% silk rugs i saw in india when i was there (they would change colours as you lift them as the light refracts differently).

Sure it's a machine made, but I would not necessarily say hands off. it's probably made of viscose, which is durable, but not too crush proof. I've heard of people complaining that it mats up and sheds, but the shedding stops and if you don't walk on it with shoes it should be fine. This rug reminds me a lot of a viscose line central oriental used to have called ivory sarouk I believe.

Anyway, because there is no great alternative to a rug like this in the hand knotted category, I would not advise against getting it. Just know the price is probably at or around a retail price, although I've seen some as high as 500 for a 5x8

indeed. i could tell simply by looking at the rug in person that it wasn't a special one ( i do have a nice hand-made rug from india, and another larger persian hand-made 100% wool + silk additions rug). thanks for everone's help !
