Second in a series of rugs which I recently inherited.

Very rich colors, I believe it is a directonal, and is 80"x50"

Again, Im told they have been in the family for 100+yrs.

Id love to know Age/Value/Origin

Please let me know if anymore specific information is needing regarding any of the rugs I am posting.

Mohajeran Sarouk from maybe around late first quarter 20th century. The design is a spin on a tree of life type motif. It looks like the rug has heavy isolated wear in the center, that's not good for value, but it appears as though the ends are intact otherwise. if the rug has no dry rot, folds easily, no severe stains, color run, moth problems, etc. I'd have to see more images of the wear to determine value. all these rugs you posted are good candidates for verification

If the faded coloration in strips across the center is the wear you are speaking of, I believe it is actually poor lighting/shadowing. I will get better pics this weekend.

The rug has no dry rot, folds easily, has no severe stains, no moth problems, no color run. (Of course Im not an expert)

I cannot seem to find much information about MOHAJERAN Sarouks.
From what I can find online, it seems there is no definitive answer as to where they were made etc.
Someone even mentioned it may just be a name that we use to describe higher quality American Sarouks?
Also, I read somewhere that the smaller Mohajeran Sarouks are more rare, as the majority of them are normally room sized?

Is this information accurate?

this is a unidirectional design. mohajeran is a type of sarouk (from sarouk, iran) that was a slightly earlier vintage than what would be considered an "american sarouk". I cannot say for sure, but judging by my experience from photography, this carpet appears to have some heavy wear toward the center. This will impact value, I would have to see additional photographs for detail on value. I should, however, be able to give a ball park

Finally! I picked up a new camera and was able to snap some shots of this rug for you.

Hopefully you remember my original threads of rugs I inherited.

The spots of "wear" that you saw in the original pictures seem to be more of change in coloration? Like striping? I took some close up shots to show you what I mean. I also tried for one across the top of the rug to show that it is not worn in these stripes.

Let me know what else I can tell you about this one.

Everytime I roll it out, I tend to like it more and more.

I am considering taking all of the rugs to a local rug dealer in the Chicago area to see what they have to say and what they would offer as far as price. On the other hand, the ones that dont have damage, are nice rugs and tempting to put in the house, haha.

Hello Creade

Fantastic rug!

Stripes in the middle are abrash, not fading, clearly not wear. Looks a bit wider at the top.

Seems in very good condition. Age may be around 85-95 years.

With no unseen condition problems, figure $4,000 to $6,000 retail. If you sell to a dealer, $1,500 to $2,250. Beautiful rug

All the best,

I really appreciate the info.

It is a really beautiful rug.

Where does an individual go to sell a rug with a value such as this to get the best $$?

Do they sell on ebay decently?
Is shipping an extreme pain?

Hi,

Advising on location of sale is a hit or miss.

For a rug such as this, I would suggest Ebay for quick sale.

If you don't mind the additional expenditure, try posting for several weeks with a best offer around $3,500 and 10 day listing. This should help gain some watchers.

If you wish, we are able to verify this rug for you. This will help a private seller gain credibility for statement of what is at hand or you could simply link to the forum.

After several weeks of exposure, take the rug from best offer to no reserve. We can verify for $5, and even make a statement of "suggested retail value" if specific images are sent as the lower left corner looks a bit lighter. Feel free to contact me privately.

Alternatively, you may consider local auction houses which I will be happy to suggest some in your area or to send to.

All the best,

Nice points CloudThink ends are intact. that's huge for value and the rug looks great overall. I don't disagree with the value from what's seen but some people may not be crazy about the abrash. I would also put a wider range on the value, not too many are buying right now.
