Hello,
Could you please tell me something about this rug : http://rover.ebay.com/ro...9&mtid=824&kw=lg
It seems that it was used as a tapestry - with the back covered by..? The seller doesn't seem to know much about the item.

The reason I'm asking is because the border design (with the Persian? writing) and the pictorial setting is similar (but not a hunting design) to a rug I bought recently that was originally bought in Kashmir in the 1970s - although the detail on mine seems alot finer and the colours softer.

thanks
P.S. I understand that it is most likely not an antique as it is advertised.

Kashmir Chain stitch. Flatwoven with interlinking weave that looks like crochet. Could be from China, but I doubt it going by the colors. Design is an old hunting motif seen a lot in qum rugs. Age probably 1980s.

Agreed. These clean up well, although stenciling and shrinkage of the backing can be concerns. I agitate them with a mohair brush because the stitching can't take normal, stiffer brushes. This is one of the cooler ones I've seen, love the signature cartouches. Gonna buy it 753?

Thanks for the information.
No, I'm not planning on buying - It came up when doing a search for pictorial rugs. I've been trying to find out more about the rug that I did buy, which has a similar design but different colouring(more of a paradise animals and flowers theme rather than hunting). I haven't found a lot of pictorial animal/flower rugs online - are they not a common design?

They arent too uncommon. It depends what youre looking for. a lot of the rugs dont come up in google results that i've seen. is there specific information about your rug you want to know or are you looking for a pair?

I just wanted to get a bit of information on my rug - I'll put up photos in the the rug identification thread when I can. Thank you for your help - the site is very handy.
