I recently purchased a rug from an Antique auction. The bidding was so fast, that I did not take note of what all they said of the rug.

Rug is 9'4" by 12'4"

They did say it was antique, and that is was very tightly hand woven.

Colors are vivid, I can not find any bleeding.

Texture is very smooth/soft, with a bit of shine to it.

The rug is in perfect condition, I can not find any blemishes of any type.

Any info you can give me is helpful. What do you think it is worth? Thank you!!

It's an Indo-Persian (persian design, made in India). The clue is the lattice-style fringe knotting, which is rarely seen in other weaving areas.

Thank you!

Any more info is still appreciated.

Also, I paid nearly $3,000 US for it. Is that a good price?

welcome to the forum and nice looking rug.

Antique is 100+ years old. I think this may be more along late 1980's to late 1990's. It has very good knot count. I know you said perfect condition, but I just want to clarify

how long ago was this purchased?
does the pile show blooming?
Are there any stains (minor and major), moth damage or exposed warps on the back etc?
Are all ends intact (can't see full rug)?

The rug was purchased by me within the last month. There is no visable blooming. There are no stains that I can find. There is no moth damage, or any damage that I can find.
I am new to learning about rugs, so I do not know what you are asking about with exposed warps. However, the back is clean, with no damage.

I should add that I do not know the history or who owned the rug before I did. However old it actually is, it is clear that it could not have been in a high-traffic area.

And, yes, all the corners are in tact (sorry, it is very big, and some of it is covered by furniture in my family room, so it was hard to get a good pic of the entire rug.) The fringe on both ends is also in good condition.

I will comment that the rug seems a little thin? I could be wrong. The only other rugs I have owned were machine made, and thicker. This could be a normal thickness for a handwoven rug, and I would not know.

Given the size, knot count, design, and what seems apparent as Indian origin, I think the rug is not only very attractive, but providing the condition is near perfect I think 3,000 would be considered a reasonable & fair retail showroom price from what I can see in the photos. if you want to know better value, I would bring it to a local professional for evaluation. I am glad you showed the photograph of the knot count because it is a finer piece than most. The design is good and timeless. Many of these Indian rugs have era specific colors which are not conducive to value. Take good care of it, have it cleaned regularly and don't forget to rotate it and vacuum the back every 6 months. It should last for many years

It has 7 colors?
Red, salmon, dark blue, pale blue, cream, tan, and brown.

What material/s is it made of? Or how can I tell?

How can I find out if it is vegetable dye?

It may have more than 7 colors. The outlines and top colors you may find to be closely related, but could be different. Dyes are probably Chrome

Pile is most likely wool. foundation most likely cotton.

Hello!

Nice carpet. I would agree, newer rug for sure.

The knot count does look "high", but I want to note something I'm not sure if Pro caught:

I believe both nodes of the knot show. It's hard to accurately determine from the image. But, this would indicate a lower knot count on the horizontal, thereby affecting the total knot count.

My count horizontal: 9. Vertical 17. Total 153

Here's the rug estimator pro

I think RugPro was right: one node, one knot. I know the picture is blurry, but check out the blue "squares" above and slightly to the left of the quarter in the image. I see a single blue node connecting the blue squares...

I believe you are correct about there being more than 7 colors. When I look closely, there appears to be another shade of blue and a sage. So, that is up to at least 9.

Thank you to everyone for your help. I know it is hard to tell me much through photos! And I guess photos would lead to different interpretations - nothing is as good as seeing it in person. But, I appreciate your input. Thank you all again!

Ditto. Underside looks very much like the underside of my new Indo Sarouk. it appears to me that between each of David's beautifully rendered red lines, there are two rows of knots. these carpets are beautifully constructed.

Would be good to see a sharper image using macromode of the underside tho.

That is a very pretty, very elegant rug!!!!
