I am looking at a claimed Turkish Hereke, 40"X29" . The story goes the individual purchased it in Turkey about 8 years ago for from $1,100 to $1,300. It has never been used and has black straps for hanging. The last claim wihtout credibility is it is a 1,000 KPSI. There is a back picture, it looks like a nice tight knoting, but without a quarter I would expect/

When I see people buying rugs at point of origin they don't seem that much cheaper. Would a high quality Hereke cost that little in Turkey? Or the person has never been to Turkey, or he has but he bought a cotton rug thinking it is silk.

The seller has a very good record and very strong return policy.

Does this make sense. The auction quit after 30 days with no interest shown at $1,500. He will sell for less. I will get many more pictures before I buy these are just to show the rug's general makeup

If I had to guess KPSI on this piece, I would place it no more than 400. I don't know about the story being credible, but if you have more photos, that's a good start.

In Turkey and purchasing overseas in general, it's a different thing. The seller often builds up the perceived value of the rug, and if the buyer negotiates well, they may walk away for close to a US price.

I don't dispute the buyer may have paid the price they did, but I'm not sure they would have an easy time unloading this rug even for a fraction of the price.

More info, KPSI count, fibers used, condition, and other may represent different. From what I see in the photographs, the price and story is high... I'd like to see more.

Some more pictures...the back looks like a tight knotting, but I don't have a perspective on amount. I'm not sure what the dark pictures are. I appreciate you comment on price, since I just look generalities such as hereke and think it must be good. Obviously no one on ebay thought it was good enough for $1,200. He says he will sell it for $1.025. No interest after thirty days shoud say alot. I see another hereke with what seems like same design and same size. It has bids for $1,350 and hasn't reached the reserve. Thanks again.

I think the first thing I need to do is take your advice on "is this a rug you can't live without" rather than "hey it's not a bad rug and I won't have to pay much for a hereke". Yes, all rugs are not created equal/
