I like the design of this rug and it's a good size for my hallway. Any thoughts? http://rover.ebay.com/ro...9&mtid=824&kw=lg

Thanks in advance

Hi Rt you have a good eye

First the good: appears to have very nice colors, good attractive design and seems to be a decent value.

Things to consider: They say condition is excellent. It may be, but many sellers differ as to what "excellent" condition means. If you are particular, I would ask specific questions about pile wear, color run, repairs, odor... the usual stuff.

Also, the rug appears to have 2 things that caught my eye that I think I should mention. Not saying it will severely impact value, but if the area intended is a tight squeeze: The rug appears to have a very slight curve. Also, the right hand side appears to be as much as 6" longer than the left. If size is of concern, you're going to want to ask exact measurements on either side, and either end.

I take it you may have missed the saga with Jilly's rug from this seller This seller advertised a rug at one price, then bumped it up 2 fold with a best offer after receiving an e-mail from Jilly with her noted interest stating they misprinted the price. They then wanted to charge $15 for additional pictures. Jilly was ready to purchase... and then, the seller said they had already sent the rug out to California. Bummer.

It's a great looking piece. the photographs aren't detailed enough for me to determine other areas of concern outside of what has been mentioned. Price seems reasonable with a best offer and free ship. I wouldn't shy away, but do consider the info above and don't believe their "retail price".

Thanks for the pointers RugPro. It is a beautiful design. I knew Jilly had problems with a seller, but didn't know it was THIS seller... Something to definitely keep in mind. I didn't catch the uneven appearance of the ends - good catch on your part. The space leaves no fudge room. I'll ask for more specific info from the dealer if I decide to move forward. The whole Jilly debacle kinda gives me the willies.

lol,

Really good taste in design and color. That blue seems to be a really great rich tone. One of my favorite features when a bold rug is harnessed by that color in the medallion.

Keep us updated

Hey, Houston!!!!! It is SPECTACULAR!!! Unique. Forget the stags-bucks in the corners!!! I would never have seen the trapezoidal part......Pro catches things, boy.

Forget, his choice of the word "saga".....high marks.

My suggestion=email them. She will answer. Use your own judgement, you have good instincts. I find we can learn specifics form everything, including the nuances in an email. but yes, this is the almost drove me into a padded room dealer here in NY.

If YOU are moved independent of anything you have learned about this vendor here.....ask her for a closeup of the underside with a quarter. Ltimus test, forget it is always important I have learned.

Also remember, their Sino rug I fell in love with and was a mouseclick away form buying.....their bad (to understate the reality) on all counts I did not.....is a really fine, and glorious rug.

For obviously reasons, I would be most interested in the response should you email....and also the denouement should you end up with this really special rug. At least I see I can appreciate exceptional rugs not my personal taste.....and, as I have written before and Pro observes, you have a really good eye!

I would also ask if the rug has color run or abrash. Edit: I assume you are planning to raise the issue observed re not square, not plumb, not nectarine (lol) yes?? I confess, I am both concerned about your getting whatever it is you think you ae buying---you and all ohter humans--but also, my own wound still not healed and so I want everyone to hold this vendor's wefts to the fire.

Also remember, their Sino rug I fell in love with and was a mouseclick away form buying.....was their bad (to understate the reality) on all counts I did not.....is a really fine, and glorious rug. My take immeidately.....also at the original price it was offered at....a very good buy.

At least I see I can appreciate exceptional rugs not my personal taste.....and, as I have written before and Pro observes, you have a really good eye!

Factor in my experience with this vendor, it was atypical verging on INSANE.....but keep an open mind too! That the rug I wanted and this one are so disparate re pricepoints may impact as well. I eman it. but still, U wanna trust and you have every right to expect somethig be represented accurately and the vendor manifest some integrity.....even if the item is a dollar.

UPDATE: The seller accepted my offer of $180 for the rug. If it turns out to be great, then great. If not, then lesson learned. Besides I figure you can go through $180 these days on not much more than dinner and a movie. --- actually, I was in Manhattan a couple of weeks ago and forget the movie - the $180 would just about cover dinner :-) Anyway, I'll post an update when I receive the rug -- fingers crossed ++ no Jilly-esque experience. Thanks for the all the helpful info!

I hope....congrats! It sure looks amazing. Yep.... some would call $180---V courageous offer, by the way on percentage basis, way to go!-- chump change, alas. But the corner bucks-stags alone....worth every penny. Forget the birds and the ducks and I believe also SWANS!!! (Unlike primates, swans mate for life & the lady swans wear Vera Wang.) But also don mean you aren't entitled to know what you are buying, all the relevant data accurately......even if it's a used but in X condition DVD on Amazon!!! It's the PRINCIPLES.....of the PRINCIPAL, meaning, the vendor.

My presence here is coming to an end.....but trust me, I will make sure to find out every single detail re when this puppy arrives in Houson. It's an ADVENTURE!!!!

Addendum: looking at topside closeups of yr rug....I first thought there was abrash in the lite blue field in which the ducks swim in the diamond shaped medallions. But suddenly felt it might be purposeful!!

Then I googled these rugs. Then I came upon Mr.O'Donnell whom I know about from having been a member of this community....now I just heard him speak for the first time, he sounds so NICE..address a Kurdish Bijar....a big one being blocked. THIS rug U will see, has something vetty interesting indeed! the use of two colors of wool in one area, NORMALLY KNOTTED IN ONE color.! In this ironic case, it is BLUE AND WHITE!

He showed this in video cloeeups and said he'd seen this rather uncommon phenomenon coupla times before....in very old Kudrish rugs and sometimes in very new! Would it not be amazing if yours has this?????

PS.....I thought I would put up the part of the rug which caught my attention, made me Google and led to the Mr. O'Connell video above. Given yr rug is represented as same source and genre, question is, is THIS is an example of what he was showing in that video? We will soon see! When they made these lovely, charming ripples in the water on yr rug, did they use two colors of wool, like white and blue together or only lite blue?

I like so many parts of this rug....forget the whole thing works as a piece.....but I like the way the water is done best of all.

the $180 would just about cover dinner >>>>

You can spend $180 on a machine made piece of plastic rug from Walmart or TJ Maxx. Think of a handmade rug, made by somebody, that the end buyer gets for $180. Would any of us spend that much time making a rug for, what $90? I think this is why I bristle whenever I hear people refer to handmade rugs from Iran or Afghanistan or anywhere, the product of how many hours of human labor and skill and creativity, no two are absolutely alike afterall, as "garbage."

I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but I BOUGHT THE WRONG RUG! When I went on Ebay to make the offer, I didn't follow the link I posted here. I did a search and found what I thought was the rug. I didn't look closely at the picture since I was sure it was the right one. It wasn't. One would think I would have noticed the difference in price. But truly it didn't register. After the hurricane last fall, everything on the island has been topsy-turvey. I've spent the last 5 months dealing with insurance companies, insurance adjusters, the mortgage company, and worst of all FEMA. A $200-$300 dollar purchase didn't register after the tens of thousands of dollars worth of checks I've written for home repair. Anyway, I'm sure I could contact the seller - she has both rugs - and work out a substitution, but I'll keep the rug I bought. It'll serve to remind me that one should always take time to make sure.

Yes, I started noticing early on when I was using eBay that you really had to look very closely, read everything, and be very careful. The flip side was one time I had bought a rug on eBay, one I knew was older and a little worn but I knew I could sell to the type of people I sell to, which is a cross section of different demographics including those on a tight budget but who still want a "real" Persian rug. When it came, it was not the rug I bought but was vastly superior, same size, but not the same rug. So I contacted them and told them the story, and they let me keep it. I was happy. It was not some priceless treasure, but it was certainly a better rug than I had paid for. But then I do not believe that priceless treasures show up on eBay rug sites.

The two colors of spun "salt and pepper" wool as O'Connell mentioned is somewhat of a unique occurrence in any rug. Structure, colors and other of bidjars vary somewhat depending on age and exact area.

Krow, I agree, no more terming rugs as garbage on the forum.

Jilly, the image above exceeded the size dimensions of this Forum. I had to Re-upload it properly cropped.

As a note to all users, If an uploaded image shows up not as an attachment but as an actual image on the forum, be sure to check whether or not it affects the layout of the forum If it does, please delete, crop or resize

Good thoughts. When Amy---my practice buy on ebay re a Luri rug rug I thought was wondrously insane and joyous. arrived, I struggled to embrace these very thoughts. remember posting here, someone devoted much time to making Amy.....but her OMG reality trumped all of it. I am sure she was an exception. Sigh.

No cause for embarrassemt at all! Far beyond hand knotted rugs....humans are each entirely unique beings.....were anyone perfect, would life be worth living? Would the privilege of being here be rich? No. Would there be any dynamic? I am sure U can sent it back, and I am sure you can get the real rug in question.

Cut yrself slack! Even get a kick out of this! I think it is even adorable.
