Simply by weight and thickness is this a bijar? I have never felt a bijar, but I have read the process used for knotting makes them singularly heavy for Iranian rugs. Also any idea on the age? It needs a wash and I believe the center medalion will greatly improve with that. It is a 5X9.

I earlier said that I was no longer going to buy a rug on impulse. I lied even with good intents.

The old label on the back does saw "Iran" but no other notations.

Thanks

I have several large Bijar rugs, and the ones I have certainly are very dense and thick and stiff. I love those qualities. Mine are all geometrics, darks, mostly black and dark jewel tone colors, but no florals, scrolls or repeaying patterns. But that's the aesthetic I find most compelling, my own taste. The downside of course is that they weigh a ton when you try to move them.

Def. bidjar type design. Iranian rug. has a hamedan weave tho.

Does look like a pretty hefty piece :) not only do they serve design purpose, but you don't have to go to the gym after lugging 'em around

Btuma - my guess is some sort of Hamedan going by the weave. colors point to a new weave, I would guess somewhere around 15-25 years more or less.

I'll attach a picture of the label with extensive editing to be able to read it. Im not sure if any hints can be gotten by wear, type of lettering used in the label.

The label also has Kolian later written on top, but just looking up Kolia rugs, but they all look very geometrical so I apprecate your hamedan thoughts since that would seem closer. I didn't think it was an antique, but I was hoping for the '50 or '60 not for value, but it's simply nice to have an older one.

Sorry - didn't intend a thread hijack :-) I've posted my questions elsewhere.
And now back to the thread still in progress.

Beautiful rug by the way!

To make sure my error is clear, refering back to RugPro's comment's, this rug is a Hamaden if you are searching for a rug like it. The comments about Bijar were my error in thinking, hoping this was a bijar since it is a heavy rug. Also as KrowGyrl stated bijars are usually geometrical, darker rugs. This rug is a very nice rug, that I am glad to own. I just don't own a bijar, but a Hamaden.

It's cool. I like it.

You know, it could be older or newer than what I initially though. These types are much harder to properly ID the AGE
