Hi

I am interested in evaluating the following carpets that my father purchased in early nineties from Iraq, he was told that they are more than 70 years old at that time.

1- Twin Isfahan- Size; 7.0x4.7ft each , both in excellent condition
2-Kashan or Qoum (not sure of origin)- Size: 7.0x 4.66 ft size in very good condition with couple of moth patch as shown in back of carpet photo.

Thanks for any information.

Hi Ardo,

I am just a member here and we must wait for Rug Pro, our resident Pundit.....but I unofficially welcome you to the forum.

Your pics are spectacular.....but you offer no info. Are these rugs yours or are you considering buying one or both? Selling one or both? Can you share their respective sizes? What kind of evaluation do you need?

I am novice, but I think both are especially beautiful with both excellent designs and colors; both hand and finely finely made with high KPSI. Both appear recently made, at least to me. The Kashan appears to resemble some fine reproduction rugs now made in India, but Pro will know if it's made in Iran.

Again, if you could offer some data I think it will give RugPro a little more to work with and foster his contribution to YOU.

Hi

Thanks for quick response, these rugs are mine, as i mentioned earlier, the Isfahan twins are 7x 4.7 feet each with around 520 ksi
As for the Kashan, its nearly the same size.

I am sure that they are more than 80 years old and in v. good condition since they were hanged on wall for years, however my request is to get an evaluation of its current value, also to make sure that the Kashan rug is in fact Khashan or Qoum??

Thanks

Hi, quick response from a novice, not worth much! I must have missed the data you offered....so strike my questions to you. Pls wait for Rug Pro to weigh in.

I have no experience with such fine, tightly woven Persian rugs.....forget possibly antique ones in such pristine condition, it took me aback.
But hanging them on walls is sure to preserve them! Is that they were hung, the reason for the tape along the selvedges? Very good condition is the understatement of the decade.

I see the Kashan has double ply yarn.....Pro will make good use of that in the data he presents to you.

Not sure why....maybe the colors, I am not convinced the Isfahans plural are antique, I am sure I am wrong...and I have read that by genre alone even the less spectacular among them are still very fine and desirable and yours are just lovely.

Also, Pro will want to know if you want an evaluation to sell or to insure, and if to sell, by what route....or just cause wanting a sense of value in marks, euros, dollar.. is NORMAL AND HUMAN!!!

Final observation of the "twins" I notice the corners are not what they call "resolved," THIS may indicate the twins are what thy call "city" Isfahans as opposed to "workshop".

But I need to shut up and we need to wait for ouR Pundit!!

Ardo, these are some fantastic looking rugs. I want to carefully consider each one, this may take a little time. Both rugs have beautiful design, colors and excellent appeal. I think it may be okay to rule out Qum although some structure elements point to this being a possibility. I would say perhaps Isfahan although design elements in both point to Kashan but weave looks slightly different. It could be other, but I think it's fair to say these rugs are both what would be considered very desirable pieces although the market has been soft recently.

Is it possible you could isolate each rug on an individual thread and provide the following photographs 1-6 for each piece?

This will make referencing a lot easier Drool

Ardo

1- Twin Isfahan- Size; 7.0x4.7ft each , both in excellent condition

I think it's fair to say this is 1930's or 40's looking at the photographs, it's probably a reasonable age. It looks like this rug was handled by some sort of dealer/professional who may have sewn on the straps more recently. If they are both in near mint condition with no wear (the fringe looked as though it may have a stain) I think as a pair perhaps as much as $14,000 +/- in USD, US retail showroom. Colors look very nice and rich.

2-Kashan or Qoum (not sure of origin)- Size: 7.0x 4.66 ft size in very good condition with couple of moth patch as shown in back of carpet photo.

I think this may be Kashan. and appears to be a little newer. The moth issue on the back may affect value if in other areas and scattered or translates to the front. However, but if this is a practically unused rug with no other problem areas than that which is seen, I think $6,000 USD +/- would be fair retail value in a showroom here in the States.
