The rug is signed, Krow may be able to help determine what that may say. I don't read unfortunately. There is a fair amount of wear to the center. that does impact the value significantly, although it's a very fun piece. Age is probably 1950's

The design says to me this may be a Kashamar. It is hand knotted. Couldn't tell but it looked like there may have been some end loss, it's important to have these secured if the rug will receive higher traffic. I see it's in a dining room area (with a really cool table). Don't know how much you entertain, but that's something to keep in mind to prevent end loss. Do you mind me asking how much you paid?

the technique you'll want to inquire about is called "overcasting". Sometimes it can be cost prohibitive, but if you're handy with a thick needle and thread it's not too hard to learn how to finish it well.....

First, I am novice and leave the important stuff to RugPro and others. I think the rug is wonderful! Very individual, great colors and harmony of design; nothing gratuitous. I particularly luv the resting deer with his or her legs folded neatly under him or her.

Second, I ditto rugPro! The dining room suite is amazing. You have amazing eye. Is table top mahogany or rosewood?????
Are the metallic-appearing parts gilded or actually metal? It is FABULOUS, yr new rug is perfect with it and also an original, uncommon, not cliched choice.

Finally.....you have been Bitten by The Rug Bug. Will it make you insane? Count on it! But you will not mind it at ALL.

I think the carpet was a great choice for the room. The shop had several others in traditional designs that were about the same size, but I wanted something unique. A couple of the other rugs were obviously more valuable (even I could tell) and were slightly less money, but the rug wasn't an investment. It just makes me smile. The shop has another carpet with a similar design - obviously from the same donor. It's smaller (8x10) and right now is the same price. It goes down to $600 next week, then $300 at the end of March. (They were originally $1500.) Since I already have this one and don't have to worry about someone buying it out from under me, I'll try to pick up the smaller one at the lower price. It'd look great hanging in my bedroom.

Like the rug, the furniture was a lucky find. The table is rosewood (you have a good eye) with a gray glass insert in the top. The gold parts (stylized wooden swans) are gilded. The legs stand on piece of green marble. There is also a matching sideboard not visible in the photo. (Sounds like a furniture store ad) The suite came from New Orleans many years ago. My house is a 1920's craftsmen bungalow and I use a mix of period and contemporary furniture.

Next, many thanks for the corroborating & additional info re the dining suite; it is spectacular, with it's elegant and fierce, reticulated and stylized, undulating serpentine essence, forget, the gilding appears original and intact including on the chairs.......but...
I am convinced, we earn our "luck" and that you are no exception. Others saw it, others saw yr new rug and the remaining two which will soon be yours......you have earned eyes by Marcel Proust......you see "existing horizons with new eyes.'
