Boys & girls......this recent, good it came toward the end of my evening work shift......is so SPECIAL lol......I felt it deserved a thread of it's own. It's roots begin in the Moving to India and China thread.

Everyone get a beverage and some chips.....hopefully organic.

You bet, GOTTA WATCH RUGS EVERY SECOND. Cause they escape. turn into dog and pony shows, vary their kpsis from 200 to 500....double and triple teir value from day to day..... OMG, It's worse than PMS, right?

I was being protected by someone high up when, in 3 attempts to Paypal U money via this email address, I got series of error messages. I recall even pasting one into the body of a mail.

I get it, Nancy......along now, with hundreds of others. We ALL get it. I want you to know, tons of rug people...including the most respected pundits here in NY, have followed this MINI JOURNEY from jump on the rug site I was lucky enough to join at the start of my hunt.....and they will be fascinated by the denouement. Not surprised tho.

Nancy....It ain't where U go....it's what U bring, how you travel and mainly....where you're comin from.

Boy has this been interesting. Unexpectedly wince-making & reprehensible, but interesting as hell.

So bad. Do we believe her? Didn't have the rug.... But "lets pump the price anyway." Who knows, sounds like a load of cockamamie. maybe she's lazy, maybe she's disorganized. Either way, I'd bookmark that seller as one to avoid... Especially given the difficulty of getting additional pics

Ok YOUUUUU are too PURE... to get the whole disgusting. And it is disgusting-DEFINING. First, they have the rug. Trust me. They tried to set me up by doubling it's price. That listing EXPIRED YESTERDAY. She also got I am trusting, but hardly stupid.....she also got form my last mAIL, I was actively pursuing two other options as well. I wrote it plain and simple.

She also din want me to SEE THE UNDERSIDE OF THE RUG---bet anyhting no other human asked for that image! Just that sent them into huge turmoil......which rug, WHOSE KPSIS she said in her last mail, "you will see they are above 200". The listing says 300 in one place and 500 in another place.

They can't deal with ANYONE even slightly ENLIGHTENED. I could feel the change in them as things progressed.....ESP RE MY LAST MAIL RE INTEGRITY AND DEALING IN GOOD FAITH, ETC. They are about getin over. She knew she could not....and that Jily would end up being TROUBLE.

Next, as most LOWLIFES, they are now trying to avoid having ebay, whose rules I already know via what you, Pro, shared... they have violated bigtime.....from coming down on them. It is also possible they cut a deal---and for the price I mention below, not more and maybe not even....privately to circumvent eBay charges as you explained them. But I doubt that.

It is also possible they visit THIS SITE!!!

It's a very nice rug. But it's worth between 1400 & 1,600, Not a penny more. that is what I think. They are saleazoids and con artists bigtime. Gutter snipes. It is what it is. Can you imagine what it is like to be them from hour to hour?????? I would rather be dead. and Pro.....soooo.....would you.

I hope, given what I wrote her, they live in fear for days and days.. They SHOULD! In this economy? Are you kidding??? Big litmus test.

Again, you just can't make this merda UP!!!! And that.....is wut it is. Alas.

In service of total objectivity, there is one other possibility and I am not qualified to hazard a guess on this, Pro, wanna take a shot at this one?. It is possible the rug really was worth more than the original listing, they came to realize it, felt they hadda honor something unofficially contractual with me based on the original listing....and then tried to sleazoid out of it both by doubling the price and then pretending it was sold? Any thoughts on this?

I like getting to the bottom of EVERYTHING and having distortions about nothing. And I never mind being wrong which lets me be really open.

I think someone should write a carefully researched piece on neo Persian rugs now being made in India, China and Pakistan, esp the first two.. That is what I think......cause right now, cause of the tapdancing, smoke & mirrors & evil, I am finally not clear on the objective reality and value of that Nancy rug.....and I can hardly sit up to go on Googling......but not much info out there, believe me.

There is a VOID I now think needs filling academically. I am completely serious.

Mistakes happen. It's possible this was one, but unlikely. The best thing to do would be to find a similar rug in their inventory with same advertising, and if they haven't already been corrupted with their trickery of doubling price with best offer, divide price by square feet, and see if this rug was in congruence with others.

Replacement value for rugs has gone up a lot in the last few years because of exchange rates, but to counteract this, business has also been slow. People react to this in one of two ways - lower the price for more volume, or raise the price for better profit. I think most buyers don't believe price reductions anymore, so sellers like this slither around their inventory fudging prices when and where they can. I think she sees your a smart buyer, KPSI of 200 is believable, could be higher, but I think Less reputable sellers are intimidated by buyers who do their research.

As for the article on India and China, what specifically would you want to know? There are A LOT of different rugs, varying a good deal in quality. That's a ton of information!

Forget Slum Dog.....this one wins the Oscar:

I just felt in service of the academic heart & mandate of this community, there is a void in the arena I mentioned. I have Googled manically and there is nothing delineating hard data in one place......forget with images and illustrations. There is brief and general stuff. I see nothing more.....nothing bringing the elements of this subject together in one piece, where I now think it belongs, given the direction hand knotted rugs have apparently taken in recent years as things change geo politically.

I wasn't thinking of myself---my infatuation with a Sino neo Persian rug is over; it was trumped by sleazoid stuff....I just think it would be a precious contribution for everyone and that there is a void.

I have Googled neo persian-persian style rugs now being made in China for days. I saw rugs. They were not cheap. But I saw nothing like the Nancy rug and there was no real hard, comparative academic, detailed data. Remember, I manically unearthed & emailed people I did not know. Rose in China was the one who replied, but tht was huge what she shared about the knots. That is an example of what I mean.

3 books I have particularly enjoyed and learned a Lot from.

One thing you learn is that an awful lot of the patterns and techniques have been blended with patterns from other areas and techniques from area to area over centuries of interaction.

Yes, there are still some certain techinuqes (and styles) that are more prominent in one area than another but
even then
it is virtually impossible to say that a rug is high quality because of where it came from. . . . and therefore just as hard to say that it is of inferior quality strictly because of which country or region it came from.

From your eloquently expressed interests I think you will enjoy any and all of these books.

Those are really good suggestions NetJim. I think it's time we assemble a good reading list at some point. Out of curiosity, how many books do you have in your library, and what percentage would you say have served well for research? I don't know about you, but I do have some which I was a little disappointed by even with some of the content.

I have a couple dozen although 3 or 4 of them are not much more than pamphlets. I got a little something out of each and every one but, obviously, some are more "valuable" than others. The 3 I cited above are probably some of the best from my point of view. Another is the one about the Dobag project (Return to Tradition by June Anderson). Not an awful lot to learn about in it re patterns etc but a fascinating read and a Great feel-good-about-it story..... a story that continues and has spread (reinvigorated?) the craft of vegetal dye.

You're right, we should probably create a reading list but that probably deserves its own thread. :)
