I am helping a person sell a rug and he has told me that it is a Persian rug from Tabriz. I really do not know a lot about these rugs but I am trying to find some information about whether or not this fella has what he think he has or whether he got take years ago when he shelled out over $5K for it.

I have some pictures included here, any of your expert opinions would be great! If there is any other picture of a specific area you may need to help you determine something specific, I would be glad to take some more and include them.

Thanks!

I, a Novice Member, welcome you......and we must wait for Pro to give you real info.

Having said that, cause I now have the Rug Bug....this, to me, looks like a very finely woven, hand knotted rug. Maybe over 300 kpsi even. Maybe even with some silk in the pile. At least, I sure hope so.

I think Pro will wanna know the diameter and also request a clear image of the underside with a ruler along the wefts, those are the in this, very fine white threads perpendicular to the knots. Below, I have marked them in red.

Do you know where & when your friend purchased this rug?

welcome to the forum va-bay

We need photograph number 4 seen here with the quarter on the back.

Does the rug need any cleaning, have any stains, problem areas, tags, original paperwork or perhaps a signature: I take it you want to know an appropriate private party selling price?

A price would be great yes, but origin/quality information would also be appreciated. I will upload a picture with a ruler momentarily.

The rug has no tags, paperwork, or signature.

So far as stains go, there is light staining on the fringe only. There are no real problem areas and the rug is also quite clean.

It was purchased at a local rug shop some years ago.

Thanks! I'll back with that photo in a minute.

Forgot to mention overall diamter of the rug is 8'1" including the fringe, a shade under 8' without the fringe.

Thanks for the count Jilly,

va-bay - how quick are you looking to sell, and with what venue? From my experience, a rug of this color, scalloped ends and other, while certainly a nice looking rug, sometimes take longer to sell at a higher price point, and private party will be a mere fraction of the original price...

Ps. if with ebay do you have good feedback etc,?

Thanks so much for taking the time to make the count Jilly!

RugPro, the plan is to sell this run on eBay. The selling account has over 2,000 feedback score and 99.8% positive.

I did manage to verify that the rug was Tabriz and a wool/silk blend.

I am not a Persian Rug owner, but the research involved in this expieriance has caused me to be quite interested in the whole industry.

Let's see how my Algebra is ... (I know it's a bit rusty)

But I took the 272 KPSI and found the formula to convert Raj to KPSI and reversed it (thanks Algebra teachers!) and came up with about 45-46 Raj. Does that sound right?

a very interesting industry, but also very, very slow.

The only thing I was curious about is the flat woven area around the rug. Often the iranian Tabriz rugs like this with the broad kilim have accent designs or some sort of decorative pile to break up all the empty space. Not saying it's not Iranian, but Chinese was a thought. I would lead to iranian myself as well because the pile appears to have been sheered thinner than a chinese rug typically would have been, and curved areas of the desgn seem to have an Iranian touch to them

272 does come to roughly 45 RAJ.
