Yet agian, I find myself at another unexpected & challening juncture in this arduous, protracted but hardly not interesting Rug Hunt I thought would take a week.
I needed to feel....simply from exhaustion, that that new Sarouk for around $1,100 with the navy border and the too dense floral cluster in the field, but good KPSI, maybe Kork, maybe Crock......was My Rug. It's the line from Godfather III (I have Trilogy box set on DVD), where Pacino, before he collapses is like, "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back IN." All human wisdom is in the Godfathers, OK? lol
First, I finally noticed those neo sarouks openly listed as Indo....often have much nicer field details than those stated as being made in Iran. These Indo field details still do not reflect the floral angulation of the original ones like mine.....but it is far more lyrical and a kinda genre of its own, and I find it more aesthetically pleasing. I will upload an example below and then again the "Iranian" one I thought was My Rug.
Next, given I see I have strong bias against Indo reproductions-I was raised to believe Persian rugs are the only way to go, and I thought my parents were not only different from other parents (they were), but also nuts (Mea Culpa)-tho Joe Nevo, who is very smart man, once mailed me something to the contrary re Indo rugs being inferior....and I now feel this bias needs examining (all biases do if they are arbitrary and absent all the accurate info). Ponder how many terrible rugs actually made in Iran now are all over the place & are pathetic!!!!! Seconds, as Pro says, with color run, ghastly colors, designs and badly made, etc.
NEW CANNA WORMS THIS IS.
In this tangential issue which presented, I came upon this:
http://www.xr.by/sarouk-rug-pattern.htmlI BELIEVE THIS GUY.
Now, someone has told me the neo Sarouks are often tea washed. I know from here, that is to be avoided. Also, that one can detemine this to some degree, by comparing the underside colors of a given rug to the pile colors. Note in what I will upload below....example of Indo Sarouk, the colors match. i now observe, on some of those listed as made in Iran, they do not. Match.
U can not trust any of these people, OK? Pro is right. U must do all the homework yourself, harvest the gifts from people here and ARRIVE AT DIFFERENTIAL ACUITY ON YOUR OWN. We all know ignorance is not, in fact, bliss, it is HELL, OK? but in trying to buy a half way decent hand knotted rug you like & can afford....the hell of ignorance is OFF THE CHARTS.
Pls see below; what uploaded as a jpeg link is the typical Indo type field detail; image below the typicla field detail of one ostensibly made in Iran. See the difference? It is significant. I will also upload the underside of the Indo Sarouk in which it appears no tea washing has been done. This too. uploaded as a jpeg link.
