this is my last for the day, I promise (but I also lie):

Now I have learned hugely from right here in rcent days....I printned out tons, I lke hard copies of important stuff. So I learned in the is it real or is it faux tutorial about weft in machine made rugs versus hand knotted and the logical whys re the loom and eficiency and like that.

so I just saw this on eBay....not terrible looking, he swears it is hand knotted:

But check out the image of the underside, I will paste it if I can. I am VERY early in the daunting learning curve, but am I nuts or does the weft go in the wrong direction for a hand knotted carpet: perpendicular to the short fringe edge? I think I am just sleepless. Maybe. Also now paranolid. lol

Caveat Emptoring in an ignoble arena! Really, is below evidence of chincanery or my ignorance and exhaustion??

This is certainly a Tabriz from the mid-20th century. Hand knotted and everything. Great observation about the weft, but it looks like everything is proper on this piece in assessing hand knotted characteristics. The edge we're seeing is the selvage, the edges of the rug which run parallel and longer on a portrait oriented rug.

Hi,

I doing my evening work, I partner with a site in PA.....I would so rather be on this site with no distractions, boy!

Well, given the above, there is apparently no end to my ignorance! lol I am a true paragon of that in this field!.....cept just learned here, the proper term for "field" is 'GROUND."

Soooo interesting: a really educated and keen eye trumps the arcane stuff I have begun to learn from the tutorials & reading threads here!!!!

Always heartening to postulate chincaney and find out you are WRONG.

This is classic, "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing."

How is it possible I do not need not pay tuition here?

Jill

Edit: OK wait......if the edge we see in the blurry image is a selvage edge.....how come it has fringe? It is a millipede rug with legs on every margin? Seriously.....within my by reflex sardonicism.....I am always serious under it all.

lol we all learn from each other so tuition is really in words!

seems like you have an interesting background, what is this site you partner with if you don't mind me asking?

Just caught this; I am recovering from my first COMPUSLIVE attempt at puppy shopping...frought with all kindsa stuff.

I partner with a site in PA as an advisor to clients from all over the world tho mainly USA. I read for around 70 clients a week, tho many are regulars.....all professions, all demographics, all unique individuals. It is heady, challenging work incorporating all I am and all I know and learn in my journey ongoing. I work standing up and walking around....right now on my hideous rug from the garbage. For 3 years, I partnered with a similar site based in Calif.....over time, their commercial slick eroded my tummy and my joy in tis work, and I moved in late summer. I am also published in both ongoing fiction and exposition...the latter on many topics; have designed and built my own cabinetry despite I am size 2.....these for openers. I am rabid Impassioned ingenuous student of nearly everything from politics to technology and everything in between. Except BUSINESS. My business sense, given I have zero interest in it, is not just abysmal, it is absent.

I learned none of what I own & do as an undergrad in the Ivy League. That was a waste of time. But part of the body of my work. Also very fun.

I also grow orchids, and within conditions nobody in the subculture can believe. I wrote about it in 01 for Orchids Magazine feature. Everything has a metaphysical nucleus as I now see it, unfathomable by conventional means but hardly inaccessible. After finding the first orchid I ever saw in the (agian) garbage of this building, that journey began. I evolved ways of dolng this after learning the orthodox basics quickly and then breakingall the not viable but still honored rules. If you give me an email address in a PM I will send attachments. But not rugs. lol I am on my way to buying my first rug. Or i now think, maybe TWO. Too bad I don't drink, cause this is very exciting but also a little stressful, given MY HISTORY with my (FORMER) Sarouk.

Please know.....without my having come upon this site.....I would probably be stuck with my found Ugly rug forever. I was terrified and clueless. I mean all of that. The more purely, in the moment you reclaim the capacity to BE...& celebrate the journey....the more miraculous the unfolding, tho never without stress and confusion I think it's factory-loaded choreography of sorts.....and we are all engineered to manifest this. But I now observe, few do!

Again, I will be happy, no thrilled--- to transmit attachments including the feature for ORCHIDS I mentioned.....this is why we have scanners, yes? I am flattered by your interest. I must now recover from my marked by hysteria and insecurity and while working... failed attempt to make my first rug purchase. Again, hand to heaven, I would not even have had the OPTION TO GO THERE, this first impulsive attempt, without having found this site.

Nor did I know that AFTER A HUNDRED YEARS, silk....gets BRITTLE. I guess that....IS WHEN the worm TURNS. Little pun there on silkworms.

Ya know......it is possible, given the vendor who offered the only no money puppy I really LIKED, did not depict the entire rug .....that within the rolled up part were giant holes or badly done repairs! Or ALIENS. It is also possible that some day, Geo W..will have an IQ above that of a tic tac. Ahm jus sayin. To make myself feel better.
