Hello - hoping someone can help identify/age/estimate value of this large rug I obtained at a consignment shop a few years ago. It measures approximately 13x10; I apologize for not having an exact measurement, but it is odd, perhaps 13’3” x 10’5” or something close to that? The knot count appears to be low, but this rug is VERY heavy. It takes at least two strong people to lift it. I believe it is wool on cotton, but I am not certain.

Apologies for the poor lighting in the photos. Depending on the light, the main field either appears deep red or a fuchsia-like red.

Note: the rug has been relocated out of direct sunlight.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts on this rug.

It is a nice piece from Tabriz (Marand). Unfortunately, they are not doing well in the market at the moment. But the replacement value would be around $2000. Obviously the auction value is a lot lower.

Thank you so much for taking a look. Not looking to sell anytime soon, so I hope the market comes back for these some day.

Do you have a guess on when this rug was made? It certainly doesn’t seem new, but it could use a cleaning!
