I may have an opportunity to purchase the rug but have no idea about fair market value.
Any thoughts on current value would be MUCH appreciated!
Details - told this silk Hereke was woven 1989-1991, signature is "Arak Sirinoglu" (in Armenian alphabet). Size is 3.75 meters square. Knots are about 12x12 per square cm.
I am told this weaver/designer Sirinoglu is a very top tier Hereke maker.

I can tell you that it appears to be a very good Hereke and very nicely woven. In my opinion its a genuine one. Im afraid I am not familiar with Sirinoglue so cannot comment on that. I would have thought it would be upwards of $4000.

Sharafi and Co.

Thank you for your reply. If you are curious about this master weaver, you can search Sirinoglu and hereke on YouTube - there is an interview of him Arak Sirinoglu).

Unfortunately, the offered price is much more than 4000 USD and the people with the skills needed for this level of weaving are becoming fewer and fewer, I am told.

Thanks for letting me know. I shall look it up. If he is famous then depending on his fame it could even double the price. There is almost no more weaving going on in Hereke

It is a exquisite Hereke rug with great quality. If you find one like this in Istanbul, you will probably pay more than 15.000 USD if it really is 12 x 12 knots per square cm. Hereke of this grade are hard to find, but the market is also slow for these, even if production prices in Turkey have been rising the last years.

KAD, thank you for your insight.

FYI - determining price, I am not a dealer - from conversations with a couple of wholesale Hereke dealers in Sultanamet (Istanbul) - currently, new/recent 12x12 quality (genuine) herekes are about $10,000/square meter (base price, of course, design, maker, rarity can increase the price).

As for this rug, it was made approx. 1989/90 (the Weaver modified their signature at that time to a different "font"...the Armenian letters remain the same.

Thank you, your posts are much appreciated!
