Hello. I recently purchased this 5'x8' rug at a local auction for $190 USD. The auction catalogue described it as Afghan. Does anyone have any insight into the following:

--Its country of origin (I assume Afghanistan)
--Its age (I would guess 1980 or later)
--The design (Perhaps there are Baluch elements?)
--The braided fringe (I assume these can be un-braided and cut shorter to form a normal fringe)
--The damaged end (I hope this can be stabilized without too much difficulty)
--The dyes used (It looks like there is some bleeding of the red in the photo of the damaged area)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Your rug is a Yagcibedir rug from western Anatolia / Turky. Condition looks pretty good, you should have the small defect on the fringe repaired by a pro. Later than 1980 is correct, dyes are chemical, you can have the fringe shortend but then they need a new securing to keep the rug stable. Nice rug and price was good for the size. As always recommended: have it washed by a pro and spend some money in a good moth protection.
