I received this recently from a great uncle. he prized it among all his rugs. Measure about 4.5' by 7.5' not standard sizes. believe he acquired around ww2?

Any inför would be greatly appreciated. I have many wool rugs but this one is very fine so I'm thinking silk

Thank you!

Hi, your rug was hand knotted in Qum, Iran. It is cotton warp and weft, pile is fine kurkwool. I don't think pre WWII, looks more like 1950's + to me. A very nice rug, seems to be in very good condition.

Thank you very much for the information and the Qum provenance. That dating is fairly close to what he recalled. The rug is in very good condition, definitely doesn't look 60-70 years old but he lived alone and never had company so very little traffic on the rug and then stored for many years. I assume this piece would be valued under 5K does that sound right? Just assessing to see if its worth insuring. Thank you!
