I just picked up two Swedish rugs today and have a couple of questions...hoping someone can help.
First off neither one is in very good shape having stains, wear and on the large one a hole (not all the way through).
I have been searching "flat weave rug repair" but havent found any information online.
Hard to do? Expensive? I assume it would be hard to match material in a 60 year old rug so thought of possibly sacraficing the smaller one for parts so to speak.
Stains, will a proffesional be able to remove stains that are set? No idea what they are from.
Or, do I just enjoy as is and enjoy the fact they were practically given to me.
I also see prices all over the place for swedish rugs with many of the higher priced ones being signed...any idea of the value of this two sided rug?

Washing the rugs is no problem for a good rug service company. Restoration is a problem - as you mentioned, it is not easy to get matching material.

What I'm up against here. Am I looking at a possible previous attempt at a repair?
So...sacrifice the smaller rug?

While no repair can exactly match the original rug, I still would not sacrifice one for the other. I think a good repairer will be able to dye the wool very close to the original and do a repair that will be hard to spot.

It is not difficult to find these colors. These are very common color and this is not a big job. You can do the repair and almost impossible to find where has been repaired. But the problem is both these weavings and Rya Rugs ( Swedish) are inexpensive rugs. Unless you have sentimental value on these rugs, repairing is going to cost you more than underlying value of the rug.
