Any ideas on this ivory rug with hummingbirds? I think it is silk, has vestigial cloud band border, 69" by 44".
Thanks!! Also, how old please.

Nick is right. This is a Milas rug from Turkey (Mugla Province in southwestern Turkey) circa 1920 or 1930. It should be very fine handspun wool. I have never seen silk Milas.

A little bit difficult.

Design is easy - 17th century white ground bird ushak.

Quality and origin is difficult to tell from the images.

Personally I think it was made in the 1960/70´s. Could be turkish Melas or Ladik. Usually Melas have a different knot structure than what I see here. Also possible - Lahore / Pakistan. Many antique rug designs were made there in this time from 1960 - 80. If you have the rug in your hands - please post some better images from the fringe and shirazi + pile.

What makes me think 1960-80 instead of older age is the colors. There is absolutely no abrash in the rug and the green looks very "anelin".

My initial thought on seeing the rug/knotting/fabric was Pakistani with the "silk touch" wools.

Both Milas and Ushak (Western part of Turkey) as a region very close to each others( 100 miles ). So they sometimes have very similar design.

Thanks everyone!! This rug is arriving today from Boise, Idaho with one other Northwest Persian rug from the same estate. I'll post pictures of back and selvage when I get them.

Turkish rug, not older than 1970. Machine spun warp, weft and pile wool, chemical dyes. Can't exactly locate the producing town - production of a large scale producer.

Thank you. It was thrown in for $50 from the seller when I purchased a Northwest Persian rug.
Thanks for the research and feedback.A local rug guy here questioned if it could have been a Russian production, but thanks a lot everyone. It was interesting to find out.

KAD is right. This is a machine spun wool. They are very common in this region. Before 1970, they tend to use hand spun wool.
