12.5 years ago, we bought a 6.5 ft x 10 ft handwoven Persian rug (our first). We liked the color and design. We just got it cleaned a few months ago for the first time at a local rug store and he told us that this was a Tabriz and not a Nain like the original rug seller had written in his note when he sold us the rug. Based on subsequent research it does appear that this is not a Nain ( as it is missing blues). Can someone positively ID this rug? Is it Tabriz or Nain? The weaver's name is Shokor Taghi Zaven. The company that cleaned the rug told us that the fringes are silk. There is a small bit of fringe that has been ripped out (not sure how but could be vacuum cleaner related if I had to guess). Does it impact the value of the rug or potentially expose the the main area to damage? The hues are very distinctly different when viewed drom each end. When viewed from the light end, the silk highlights shine. The rug is in a low traffic area and I love the feeling of the lamb wool on my feet. We paid 3800 for this rug 12.5 years ago. Did we do all right on the price front?

Is this a 60 RAJ like the rug shop owner wrote? What is the impact of the slight fringe loss on the value of the rug? Is the price we paid for this 12.5 years ago (USD 3800) reasonable?

I agree with Nick that it is Tabriz. It is what they call 60 Raj. It certainly does not contain 50% silk but probably about £15% taking fringes into account.

Thank you Sharafi! I think you meant that this may have up to 15% silk including fringes (I was confused by the pound currency sign). Does the slight fringe loss at one end impact the integrity of the rug. It is in a low traffic area and has rug pad under it. Was price ok?

sorry I had money on mind :D. Any defect effects value but a good restorer can deal with that so it cant be seen.
