Also, size is a little smaller than 5'x8'.

Sharafi, thank you for your input.

Is that a type of Isfahan or are you saying it's not an Isfahan?

Any thoughts on value?

Its a city near Isfehan and most dealers sell it as an Isfehan

Would the rug being a Najafabad vs. an Isfahan be considered a negative trait in terms of rarity, workmanship or value?

Generally speaking an Isfehan is more valuable than a Najafabad

Sorry, still unclear about Najafabad being "generally" less valuable than Isfahan...

Are Najafabads considered less valuable due to workmanship? Materials used? Inferior design?

Are Najafabad to be avoided (when Isfahan is a choice)

Any rule of thumb for practical use? 10%? 30%? less valuable (generally speaking)

Sharafi, thank you for your insights.

Would anyone else on the forum have any thoughts on the retail value of this rug?

Thank you

I am still unclear about the specifics of why Najafabads are less valuable than Isfahan...materials? (inferior wool? Dyes?) workmanship (weave? Other?)

As for retail value, the dealers on the forum do see very reluctant to discuss retail prices...one of the most baffling factors for amateur collectors. Yes, exact retail prices fluctuate with supply/demand but I thought "ballpark" estimates was one purpose of this forum.

Thanks

Generally speaking Isfehans are woven in silk with varying degrees of silk in the pile So the material alone makes it more expensive additionally weaving with silk and on silk requires a more skilled weaver that will demand a higher wage. Isfehani are usually woven with finer Kork wool which makes it more expensive. Isfehans usually have a more intricate design.

You have not give the size of your rug nor the condition it's in to enable a rich valuation to be given. However assuming that it is 300x200 cm and in good condition then you would have to buy this kind of piece for at least $9000 in a shop

Sharafi, thank you for the additional info.

(FYI - rug is approx. 5' x 8' (about 4 sq. meters?), even, short pile. Silk warp/weft. No repairs I can detect. Fringes very short but loop stitched to protect any future loss of pile).
