Hello Forum, it's been a long time since my last post, but i still frequent the site learn about what everyone is discussing. it's great to be back!

Seller states antique sarouk, 10'5x7'4, but, having seen some photos (attached), it has some wear, and asking $600. Based on photos, size, and cost of rug, is this worth it? Also, is there really any way to fix wear showing foundation without effecting value, or is that already out the window. Also, the sides and ends are intact, just the wear is the issue (that I can see). I know rugpro stated a long time ago that condition is everything, but is there still a market for vis rug. This will work under our dining room table, so the wear would be covered, but u am wondering if ut is too much in cost for the price plus the subsequent repair and wash.

FYI. I'm still looking for a farahan saroyk!

Again, Great to be back, and I look forward to responses. Thanks!!!

Hi,
From your pictures there appears to be several areas where wear is to the foundation.Repairing this requires repiling of Persian knot with same color and ply type yarn that would blend in with the surrounding yarn.Repiling is not as expensive as weaving in New foundation and then tying knots. This also an American painted Sarouk, so color matching any faded red area would also be hard.So for $600 you have a decorative sporadically worn Saruk whose repair cost maybe substantial. Please note, after it is washed, it will show more wear, and it raises the price to $700. Some owners of old handknotted rugs, who dont want to put any repair and intend to keep it for themselves may take an indelible color pen to it. Check out the rug estimator on Rugrag's home page. Hope this heps.
