Hi all,

We got this rug (dimensions 200 x 122 cm or 6’7’’ x 4’) because we thought that it fits perfectly for what might be the worst place in a house for a rug, that is the entrance hallway.
Anyway, it did not cost us much, is in really good condition and we think it fits its place perfectly. It was sold as a Nain rug, and I remember a post or two on this forum that showed similar designs of Nain rugs.
Now I have no idea if it is a Nain, and looking at the design flaws I do not know what to make of it. Everything is a bit off, the main medallion is not centered with respect to the main border, the smaller outer and inner borders do also not align with anything.
Is that normal for a ‘city’ rug like this that is even relatively fine (around 300 kpsi)?

PS: the rug is a bit dirty, sorry for that, but our cats love the two rugs we have with red color in it.

I think it is a Nain and a fine one. It appears to be 1970s and as if you haven't paid much for it then you have got a bargain. It has elements of Joshoghan design.

Thank you Sharafi,

Quite unexpected surprise that it is actually a Nain! Now I found the post on Joshogan designs I was after in this forum again, post 3616. I did remember that you guys had discussed it before.
Sharafi, are the design flaws common in such rugs? Does it mean that it is perhaps woven at home by a family somewhere and then sold in the city once they are finished?

While it is not precision weaving but I cannot see anything in it that I would call a design flaw.

Thanks Sharafi, i thought the small variations in design of these small outer and inner borders were kind of unexpected (attached photo). I really do not mind them at all, was just curious.

Hi Redo,

I wouldn't worry to much about the variations as they look intentional. One side matches the other.

I think its unusual, in a good way!

Hi,

thanks for your feedback. Am not worrying at all and find it cute in fact as it reminds me of my first rug i ever bought (as a present for someone else). Was a flat weave that i bought in jerusalem that had a rather obvious design mistake. The rug dealer told me it was done so on purpose 'against the evil eye'. Guess at present it means that we do not have to put a hamsa on our front door as we have our rug already..
