I think it's a Turkish Hereke and that would make it at least 30 years old. I think a fair price for it is $1500

Hi
Not sure if its Hereke
I was on the understanding Hereke were signed to the side of the rug not the middle
Could be a old wife’s tale
it may be Chinese

Chinese rug with Hereke Design, Zhenping Workshop. Most were made on order for and distributed by TÜRKAS. It is so called double (turkish) knot 300 line (many cheaper china Hereke are made with single knot / persian knot). At the time the rug was made (1995-2005) it would have had a pricetag of about 450.00 - 550.00 USD in a reputated and fair calculating rug shop. Most of these rugs were sold to tourist in Turkey as real Ozipek Herekes for 2000 - 3000 USD. Prices for chinese Hereke Silk double knot went up and are very expensive today (if made of real silk). For a private sale a price of around 300 USD is fair.

Thank you Sharafi & Co, nick, and KAD.
The seller bought this rug around 4 years ago while vacationing in Turkey.
Pile and fringe passed the burn test, so it may be real silk.
Knot count seem to vary from 24 to 26 per inch.
My camera did not capture the exact color especially the front of the rug.
I did notice that the color in the front of the rug is a different shade of the same color from under side(for example read color from under side of the rug is a different shade of read from front side)
You can see this difference in the two full photos that I posted.

KAD: I do not know what the seller paid for it in Turkey.
All I know is that the husband bought it and the wife want to sell it.
She did not know what he paid or the market value.
The rug seem to be a bit stiff, are all Chinese made silk rugs stiff?

Only the good ones ;-) the cheaper 300 l single knot are softer in feel, 300 l double knot are stiff. This is ok and typical since the rug is very dense.
