Now that the embargo has been lifted on Iranian goods..rose water, saffron, cavier, and RUGS, what can we expect???: how will the new supply affect the market??.. will it be primarily on newer rugs only?? Will there be a reluctance to export the old ones? I saw an article in the NYT of rug merchants piling up rugs for export in the Bazaars. Please let us know what you are seeing.
Thanks!

In Germany we don´t have a rug export fever yet. We had customers from US asking for rugs and now that the embargo is lifted we will be able to sell and deliver the rugs to US. In Iran there are high hopes from exporters, but I think the rising prices will effect the market quite a bit. Rugs turned quite expensive and US customers will take some time to get used to it.

Thanks very much for your reply. Perhaps also since the supply of Persian rugs will increase, the demand for the Indo and Chinese Persian design rugs (that flooded the American market during the embargo) will fall off precipitously as well as their value. I know of some shops in the US who have mostly Persian design rugs made in India, Pakistan and China because they could no longer get Persian rugs.

Well, the prices for good quality rugs from India and China went up. Silk and good wool prices are high, labour also. I do 't think prices will go down for new rugs - only if quality gets worse.
