This is a rug that belongs to a friend. He's not sure what kind of a rug it is, but knows that it was from Turkey and that its apparently an antique. I'm very curious myself. Unfortunately I was unable to take photos of the back of the rug.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Happy New Year everybody!

Hi Cartona,

IIRC, the foundation/fringes were silk. In person they are lustrous like silk.

I'm not sure about the pile though. Again, it was lustrous but when I touched it, it was difficult to tell as the pile was short - the rug is paper thin. I think it might be all silk. Not sure to be honest.

Hereke Silk rug if you find the signature or Istanbul Silk if without signature. If kpsi is between 480 and 550 it is Istanbul silk. Very nice rug that was very expensive when bought in Turkey. Not older than 1970 in my opinion, most likely to be from 1980´s or even younger. Still a rug with value.

Hey KAD, thanks for your feedback. Very interesting. There is no signature on the rug and I can't actually tell the kpsi since the rug is stuck onto a frame. But what I can say is that is was, in fact bought from Istanbul. Is Istanbul Silk of a higher quality than Hereke Silk?

Also, how much would a rug like this cost? Don't have the dimensions unfortunately.

Thanks a lot!

Hereke Rug would be more expensive than Istanbul rug. Price would depent on size and kpsi.
