Bought this at an estate sale for $200 yesterday of a 98 year old woman who collected and traveled a lot. The rugs is dirty. Did the silk test and it turns black and balls when burned. It measures 60 inches by 34.5 inches. Kpsi is 400 kpsi. Metal thread are woven only on the front, not on the back. Some colors on my smart phone are slightly sharper and brighter than actual. I can't find a lot of examples online. Help..what is it??
Looking online on ebay, I see a silk Hereke with metal threads and perhaps this is a silk Hereke???
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251495294847 There is no signature on my rug, just a border with cartouches chained. Would still like to know what this is. Does anyone have any idea??
Here is another clue... the rug had a cotton bill of lading on the back of it for 3 rugs from a place called: CIE LTD, New Dehli. One of the 3 rugs had (Zari) 3 by 5 dimen. which I believe is this rug. I looked up Zari and it means metal/ silver/ gold woven threads used in saris and other textiles. I looked up CIE LTD and it it an international company with offices worldwide-- Cottage Industry Exposition company.
Their portfolio includes many silk rugs-- but I cannot be sure if they all are made in India.
