This is my first adventure into the rug world. I happen to be in Adana Turkey for the next six months and figure I'd take advantage of what I've been told is great opportunity to perchance high-quality rugs. Some of the merchants seem honest, others you can tell are trying to take you for a ride, and I just don't feel comfortable enough with the subject yet to really hold my own in a rug buying situation. So I will wait until near the end of my time here to make my "big" perchance. But...I was out today and found what I can only describe as a "mini" rug that I loved and just had to have (probably foolishly). So, I was wondering if you would be able to tell me A: is it what he claimed it was; and B: is it worth anything more than a trinket?
The rug measures 10in by 14in. It is supposedly a 100% pure silk Qum (Qom) from Iran. My measurements (3x times with a ruler) have put it in the 725-800 kpsi range, which is in line with what I was told by the dealer. It is very easy to fold and is pliable, which I'v read that Qums are supposed to be. I count about 10 different colors used.
Any information anyone could provide would be very helpful and educational.
Thank you ahead of time!
