This is another piece I purchased at Edelmann Galleries in NYC in the 1980's. It is a kilim or slit tapesty, size is about 91" X 46". Tag says it is from Afghanistan, but I think Edelmann said it was from Turkestan. Condition is pretty good, but does have a couple stains. Was this called a Bokhara Kilim in the trade at one time? Also note that the foundation is the same tan hair(?) as the pile rug I just posted. The backside is a mass of loose threads. What can you tell me about it. Thanks for any help.

Edelmann I believe was former auction head for the carpet department of Sotheby Parke Bernet in the 70s.

Yes, at Sothebies. Then his own gallery a few blocks north. I think 77th St between York Ave and the highway.

Fabulous Turkman Kilim, which seems to be in very good condition and not often found in this size. Beautiful natural dyes with sumac technique weaving, hence the wool hanging from the back. I think it's at least 70 years old. If you are a collector this is the sort of piece you should collect.

Hi,
If this is a collector piece, do you have an approximate value?
Thanks,
Bruce

For me it is certainly a piece worth collecting and I think if you can find one like it in a shop you probably have to pay between USD2000 to 3000
