The rug is 3’3” x 5’0”, excluding fringe with a signature of “Enteshari”. It was purchased 15 years ago. The fibers are Wool pile with Silk Highlights on Silk Foundation. KPSI is 521 knots based on average of 3 samples. The digital micrometer measured just shy of 6 mm in 5 different spots suggesting the pile is at normal height. Is this a correct assumption? To assist me in completing the Pro Rug Estimator, I would appreciate receiving feedback on the following items (and any additional comments pertinent to this rug):

Age? I entered its age as between 21-49; might it be older?
Qurk wool?
Any thoughts on the signature?

For additional information, please refer to the Pro Estimator results:

Thank you again for your consideration.

Just when I thought you had stopped posting you show us another lovely rug!

Although I must say I'm a little surprised by the signature. I've owned multiple enteshari rugs in the past, and the signatures on my rugs looked nothing like the one that is on yours. The signatures on my rugs where I guess your more typical kind, with a flag or Iran on either side.

But anyways cool rug! Isfahan's have always been my favourite.

There are certain characteristics relating to the signature area which lead me to believe this section may have been added after the rug was removed from the original loom

I too have wondered about this. That's why I provided several photos of the signature area to assist with feedback. The appraiser also was puzzled by the signature area, especially given its quality and other characteristics which otherwise reflect those of an 'Enteshari' rug. In the end, after careful consideration, he attributed it to Enteshari. If the signature area raises questions but the quality of the carpet is otherwise 'solid', what guidelines do I follow to determine value for resale? Also, I would very much appreciate your feedback re:
Age? I entered its age as between 21-49; might it be older?
Qurk wool?
Thank you for your consideration.

Jellybean,

Is the appraiser that said this rug is an enteshari the same person who said your isfahan (which KAD and myself think are not genuine) is genuine?

It might be a good idea to get a 2nd persons opinion.

Setting aside the topic of the signature field, I would appreciate feedback on the carpet's... Age? Qurk wool? And any additional comments pertinent to the rug's attributes. Please refer to the Pro Estimator results at http://www.RugRag.com/Ap...-445C-8F5F-4F278D7362FD for my input. Thank you.

It is a nice rug but would definitely say the signature has been added. The colour of the wool alone suggests this.

In the 1990´s there was a large production of Isfahan rugs in all the same color sheme. Main producer and distributor was ETFA. the colors of this rug are typical for this production. The signature was added later and is not original. This is very common.
When buying Isfahan or Nain rugs look if the signature has different colors than the rest of the rug, also look if the knot structure is different and if it has different density in pile. I added a few signatures of rugs so you get a point how it should look like.
