I'd appreciate comments on the likely origin, age and quality of this rug. Dimensions are 8 BY 5. Thanks Ben attached the following image(s):

At first when I saw it, I thought it was maybe a Tabriz or something.
But when I look at the signature and how poorly it is done, I think it is a copy.
But its a cool looking rug - love the colours!

It is a very fine Tabriz 60 raj I think. The signature is " Tabriz Mir Panahi design Benam" it has a lot of silk but I could not work out if the fringes are silk. Very good Carpet and valuable. First Floor, unit 9 1 Chandos Road London NW10 6NF UK www.sharafiandco.com

A lot of Tabriz signatures (especially contemporary ones) are like that it is usually Isfehan and Qum that have clear signatures First Floor, unit 9 1 Chandos Road London NW10 6NF UK www.sharafiandco.com

Thank you all. The seller confirmed that the foundation is silk, pile: mix of silk and kurk wool. He told me that it is almost 60% silk and rest wool. He told me that it is Signed Mirpanahi, he also told me that it is a 70 RAJ Tabriz form IRAN.

Ben,
How much did you pay for the rug, if you don't mind me asking?

Yes it could be 70 raj which will then make it very valuable. But it is at best 30% silk First Floor, unit 9 1 Chandos Road London NW10 6NF UK www.sharafiandco.com

The KPSI looks to be about ~625. Its tricky from the pics. Perhaps the 60% silk was highlights + foundation?

Tracy
I did not buy the rug. I think the price is too high. The seller thinks he can get around 12000 $ for this. Yes 60% silk is highlights + foundation.
